Advantage of Diversity in the Workplace Jinato Hu, a major leader in the republic of China once said, “Diversity in the world is a basic characteristic of human society, and also the key condition for a lively and dynamic world as we see today.” In my opinion, I believe that this quote encompasses diversity as a whole. As a society, we are now a country, in which, various people from very diverse racial backgrounds could quite possibly be found together and interacting more so than ever before. Each country is their own world and fortunately, the United States of America has become a “melting pot”, in a sense that there are various immigrants from countries that have one goal in mind and that’s to come to the United States. The word “Diversity” may persuade people to automatically think about racial ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. However, Diversity doesn’t just include ethnicity and cultural backgrounds, but it also includes a wide variety of other things such as, gender and family background. All in which, completely characterize our workplace and business markets. Now, if one were to stand back and observe the most successful companies in the world today, they would notice that the most successful companies have taken advantage of Diversity to gain a substantial lead in the business world. It is entertaining to envision the change that our society has adapted to and fostered. The whole concept of diversity was so that employees could gain “team spirit” in the workplace so that they could build on camaraderie and relationships. However, in the workforce today, many businesses focus on the uniqueness of each diverse background and builds enthusiasm and excitement from within. Basically, a highly diverse staff in the marketing and sales department would purposely be prepared and ready to take on any obstacle concerning the potential requirements and needs
