Adolescence is the phase when your child moves through a series of significant, natural and healthy changes including physical, psychology and emotional changes. As adolescents begin to establish an individual identity, rebelliousness and peer influence may sometimes cause conflicts with parents. Adolescents are not always aware of potential dangers surrounding them and their newfound individuality and freedom, and parental control and authority is often challenged. Once they have imbibed something negative, it becomes almost impossible to change them and they don’t just imbibe, they often also go ahead to ‘innocently’ experiment, destroying their lives and those of their friends in the process. What are the steps to be taken to control adolescence behavior problems? Establish rules and consequences: At a time when your child is calm, explain that there’s nothing wrong with feeling anger, but there are unacceptable ways of expressing it. If your teen lashes out, for example, he or she will have to face the consequences such as loss of privileges. Manage your own anger: You can’t help your teen if you lose your temper as well. As difficult as it sounds, you have to remain calm and balanced no matter how much your child provokes you. If you or other members of your family scream, hit each other, or throw things, your teen will naturally assume that these are appropriate ways to express his or her anger as well. Praise your child: when you have positive interaction with your child, value their opinions and thoughts which lets the child be aware that he/she is being
