The mountain pine beetle epidemic is causing environmental and social impacts to much of British Columbia. Our forests are very important and will no longer be able to maintain their role if changes are not made. The devastation has had a sweeping impact on B.C.’s ecological, and economical well-being. Additionally, recent studies are drawing attention to the carbon-emitting properties of the dead forests, which is a global concern. A popular misconception developed that the current provincial mountain pine beetle epidemic began in Tweedsmuir Provincial Park.
Aquatic Invertebrates: Adaptations and Feeding Guilds INTRODUCTION Global warming and human's authoritative influence on the environment such as deforestation, pollution etc. are taking a bad toll on the diversity of the ecosystem. Global warming which has brought about increase in the temperatures is disturbing the natural cycle of the ecosystem. This has brought upon an increased droughts throughout the world. The droughts and increased heat has had negative impacts on local aquatic invertebrates.
Many worry about the negative consequences Global Warming may have on our Earth. It is believed that there will be detremental effects from sea to land. A rise in water levels causing the icecaps to melt. Melting icecaps would then release methane another greenhouse gas. The oceans salt water would mix with freshwater and CO2 would get absorbed into the oceans causing disabling effects on our waters food chain.
Reducing ground water levels will have consequences on the wider ecosystem and it will affect wetlands. Drilling in the Gulf of Mexico could damage the sea bed and even destroy ecosystems not even discovered yet. Also conflict over who will get the oil in the Arctic will be in dispute and will most likely be economically costly and large social conflicts with tribesmen there and
TMA 01, QUESTION1. Some of the most serious environmental issues today are climate change, air issue, waste and land pollution, over population and water issue. 1. Climate Change, is undeniable a global environmental concern that is triggering a rise in the amount of major natural disasters like floods and hurricanes; which causes destruction in societies and the regions which they effect. Global warming will only cause an increase in these issues along with additional problems that could eventually end this civilization, if we don’t work hard on improving our efforts on managing all the different types of pollution and waste that contributes to this major concern.
The raise of the temperature has been affecting humans and animals. Glaciers started to melt really fast which is affecting the animals that live in the north/south pole. Hydrofracking will make us alot of money and would let us to make our own natural gas and wouldnt have to get it from somewhere else but we are harming our environment we havent going to last here if we keep messing with
Common sense says you shouldn’t discover where the edge is by passing over it, but that’s what we’re doing with deforestation and climate change” (553). Desert is considered hot, and now it’s hotter; it also affects the quality of agricultural land. Nature will be destroyed, and the world economy will be going down. Global warming is one of the most challenging environmental problems in existence today. Our life, animals’ life, and plants’ life are becoming worse because we are destroying the environment.
There is also a major concern of what it would do globally to the permafrost. With the world already concerned with shrinking of the ice and the glaciers, environmentalists are concerned that the steam from the oil drilling would also do damage to the already shrinking glaciers. The arctic refuge which is considered a majestic area and the last true frontier would also have to have a pipeline running through the area to help with the transportation of oil. (Mouawad
Lake Huron is one of the Great Lakes and a major part of our fresh water system, which contains many wildlife and species. The lake however, is in a real danger, adversely effecting habitats, fish, wildlife, and human lives. Lake Huron has become a dumping ground for many companies, dumping waste that contains many pollutants. Bacteria levels have increased in the lake which can cause serious illness. These pollutants have reduced water quality, contaminated soils, and damaged the Lake’s ecosystems.
Examples of these changes he mentions are the “Arctic ice cap is melting”, Greenland’s glaciers are “thinning”, the oceans are becoming more “acidic” and “warmer” which is lowering the survival rate of several species such as coral. A higher temperature in the earth’s oceans means “the greatest storms on our planet, hurricane and cyclones, have become more powerful.” (McKibben 12-45). This is what people need to take notice in because this is what will affect us humans in an extremely negative way. Yes chemical can be harming but changing our environment to what we depend on can cause
