Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder also known as ADHD is a disorder that makes a person have problems with inattentiveness, over-activity, and impulsivity. ADHD is one of the most common childhood disorders, it can also continue to adulthood. ADHD can cause behavior problems with children. ADHD is diagnosed two to four times as frequently in boys as in girls.
Symptoms of ADHD are:
  * “Be easily distracted, miss details, forget things, and frequently switch from one activity to another”
  * “Have difficulty focusing on one thing”
  * “Become bored with a task after only a few minutes, unless they are doing something enjoyable”
  * “Have difficulty focusing attention on organizing and completing a task or learning something new”
  * “Have trouble completing or turning in homework assignments, often losing things (e.g., pencils, toys, assignments) needed to complete tasks or activities”
  * “Not seem to listen when spoken to”
  * “Daydream, become easily confused, and move slowly”
  * “Have difficulty processing information as quickly and accurately as others”
  * “Struggle to follow instructions.”
Treatments for ADHD are:
  * Behavior therapy
  * Limit distractions in the child’s environment
  * Provide one-on-one instruction with the teacher
  * Make sure the child gets enough sleep
  * Make sure that the child gets a healthy diet
  * Medications, which should not be used just to make life easier for the parents or the school. The most common medications used is Methylphenidate (Ritalin), Dexmethylphenidate (Focalin), Amphetamine-dextroamphetamine (Adderall) and Lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse)
