The Americans with Disabilities Act it prohibits discrimination in recruitment, hiring, promotions, training, pay, social activities, and other privileges of employment. The employer is also required to make reasonable accommodations to the known physical or mental limitations of otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities, unless it results in undue hardship. In nineteen ninety Congress passed the Americans with Disabilities Act. This act was established in order to eliminate discrimination of people with disabilities and to break down barriers in society that limits the freedom a disabled person. According to Section 2 Subsection A part one, "some 43,000,000 Americans have one or more physical or mental disabilities, and this number is increasing as the population as a whole is growing older." As the number suggests there are a lot of people that would be classified as disabled making this act very important. This paper will look at the Americans with Disabilities Act as how it pertains to helping people with disabilities based on who is covered, what are their rights, and what legal actions they have if they believe they have been discriminated against. In 2008 there was the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 which makes it easier for employee to show that his or her disability “substantially limits" a major life function. ADAA expanded the list of major life activities making it easier for an employee to show his or her disability as limiting in his or her ability to engage in a major life activity. When the law was signed, new doors opened for the deaf and hard of hearing culture for a better opportunity in gaining equal rights. President Bush appointed four titles to protect deaf and hard of hearing people.
