14 November 2012 Rebuttal to Brittney Baker’s “Same-Sex Marriage and Religion: An Inappropriate Relationship” The movement for the legalization of same-sex marriage has today become a prominent part of western culture. Twenty or thirty years ago the idea was virtually unknown (Lewis 33). This was due to the fact that American society was predominantly influenced by Christian values. Over the years non-Christian values have gradually replaced Christian values. In addition, there has been a growing emphasis placed on equal rights.

“[The church] should be purified of their unregenerate members…heretical clergymen…bishops and archbishops, but they were nevertheless churches and must be embraced as churches” (Morgan 31). These non-separating Puritans made it their goal to create a superlative Christian community in the New World. In doing so they hoped to serve as an example to encourage reform within the Church of England. Morgan, author of The Puritan Dilemma, describes the non-separating Puritans overall view of the Church of England to be more positive than negative. “[The church] had bought the means of salvation to many of their members and might still do so” (Morgan 31).
The people were out of control and so restraint had to be used against them in order to keep the relative calm. And God Almighty he laid down, Jesus the convicted criminal condemned to death is laid on the cross ready to be nailed to the wood. However, the centurion does not know that Jesus is the Son of Man and Dawe uses the title God Almighty to mock the man. The next line, the third, on the crossed timber and old Silenus, is explaining the deathbed of Jesus, the crossed timber. Silenus is from Roman mythology, the tutor to the minor god Dionysus.
Paul's gospel is deeply theological, but it is also eminently practical. The Good News of Jesus Christ is intended to transform a person's life. Until individual Christians own and live out the theology, the gospel has not accomplished its purpose. Paul has briefly touched on the practical significance of what he writes throughout Romans 1-11. But beginning in chapter 12 Paul turns his full attention on the ethical implications of the gospel.” (393) The process of sanctification is constant.
which was a negative one stated by Jesus (Doc. 1). Furthermore additional religious documents would have to be found to have an argument on Christianity’s views of wealth and merchants. On the other hand Islam’s view toward wealth is more positive because it is stated that if the just Muslim is truthful he shall be honored. As in the case of Christianity it would be necessary to have further passages from the Qur’an on the issue of wealth and merchants to have a more clear understanding on Islam’s origins views.
However, in modern times society is a lot less prejudice, and audiences are more sympathetic for Shylock. The Elizabethan audience would also be more religious than a modern audience, and Shylock was a character that went against everything they believed in as Christians. Therefore, especially with an Elizabethan audience, the main feeling towards Shylock would not be sympathy, but hostility and loathing. Our first glimpse of Shylocks character is in Act 1, Scene 3, where Shylock reveals to the audience the reason he hates Antonio. The first reason he gives is because he is a Christian.
Antony tries to prove to the crowd that Caesar was not ambitious when he says, “He hath brought many captives home to Rome. Who’s ransoms did the general coffers fill. Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?” (94). The rhetorical question states the obvious fact that Caesar was not ambitious. Antony states if Caesar would have been ambitious he would have not cared for those people being held captive.
This is significant because the Romans could have learned a lot from the Byzantine. The Byzantine Empire was innovate and well structured unlike the Roman Empire where they did not like change or use different ideas, if the Romans had learned from the Byzantine Empire they could have lasted even longer. He also goes off topic with his parts about the Roman army. He is not trying to take a side on anything, but rather trying to inform the public. He does explain later in the book (very well I think) how he thinks the Colonies could have progressed just as well without slave labor, but also agrees with the facts that to advance so rapidly the Colonies did indeed need
