It is a common misconception in today’s society that Christians can fully understand the Laws of Physics or science. Secularists question the ability to understand mechanisms when one can also put their faith in a “supernatural” God. Contrary to popular belief, theistic scientists have dominated many of the breakthroughs in understanding God’s design. As early as the 1500’s, Polish astronomer Nicholas Copernicus was the first person to put forward the mathematically based system of planets going around the sun and was known to refer to God in his works because he did not think it conflicted with the Bible. Another noteworthy individual is Albert Einstein who was a great physicist but viciously attacked for his beliefs and even had his life threatened for believing in God.
Most scientists argue that "God" is not a scientifically proven cause, whereas Aristotle would argue that God is ‘a remote and unchanging being who allows his world to be changeable so that it can gradually move towards the perfection which he already enjoys.’ A further fault with this would be the principle that the universe can’t explain its own existence, Why is it here at all? Why is it like this? Why isn’t it different? Why something rather than nothing?. Critics such as Dawkins and Russell say the universe is here today due to ‘brute fact’ whereas Swinburne would argue highly with that and say ‘God is simpler than anything we could imagine and gives an explanation for the system’.
I am a theist- I wholly and completely accept that a diety exists: a force greater than myself, a being responsible for the creation of the cosmos, an entity satisfying the criteria of omnipotence, omnibenevolence, and omniscience. However, I strongly feel the famous historical arguments used to prove God's existence are all founded on shaky grounds, many have troublesome implications and they directly contradict the idea of "belief" and "faith"- something so destitute in the contemporary human condition. Pascal's wager forces the rational person to choose a belief in god over non-belief. This is because given the worst case scenario, a person is better believing in a diety that does not exist (neutral outcome) than not believing in a diety
Gods existence is in a higher magnitude than just bigfoot. God’s existence is proven by many arguments like the First Cause and the Kalam Cosmological Argument. The first cause proves Gods existence by saying how anything that exists has an original cause and what exists is caused by God, the only uncaused first cause. People also try and disprove God by trying to point out imperfections of existence like the creation of evil. This does not convince however that God does not exist because evil is necessary for the good.
In the miniscule fractions of a second after the Big Bang, the universe was tremendously hot, and as a result, both matter and antimatter was rushing apart in all directions. As it began to cool, almost an equal amount of matter and antimatter collided to create pure energy. However, the slight asymmetry resulted in the universe maturing in such a way that allowed matter to persist above antimatter (LaRocco & Rothstein 2012). Secondly, Darwin’s Theory of Evolution states that all life descended from a common ancestor. As a result of random genetic mutations which occur within an organism’s genetic code, certain beneficial mutations result in the aid of survival, which are then passed down through successive generations.
He developed the heicentric theory which stated that the sun was the centre of the universe thus questioning the belief of the majority and the Catholic Church that the earth was at the centre of the universe. Although he was publically mortified because his theory contradicted the Earth being Divine he soon received acclaim from his followers such as Galileo and was accepted all over the world. Copernicus who was considered to be mad had finally changed the face of science forever. This notion is also emexplified in the novel To kill a mocking bord by harper lee. The actions of the central character atticus finch shows that only a few have the courage to go against the widely accepted facts.
This is where the theories of the Big Bang and Evolution fail. They attempt to arrive at the conclusion that this universe is eternal, but their own scientific theories about the age of the structure in which we live force even the most dedicated Atheist to admit that it was indeed created at some point in time. Therefore, if the universe was created, something greater than the universe was the engineer behind its initial
Aquinas generalizes everything in the universe based on the small amount of things he has actually seen or experienced. These generalizations should not be made without strong evidence. It can also be argued that not taking your surroundings into account whilst considering the universe is a huge error of over simplification, which makes the argument of induction seem week. David Hume however had a very strong empiricist view on the universe and can say that the assumptions based on what’s around us can only be applied to the present and do not provide any information on the past or future of the universe. Bertrand Russell also put forth the argument that the universe is a brute fact and it created itself.
Explain what is meant by intelligent design Intelligent design comes from the creationist teachings who's belief is that science is unconstitutional however even though it is believed the universe is created through a higher intelligent design, it does not necessarily have to be God. Creationists also believe that the story of creation from the bible is literally true and actually occurred. According to them the creation of the universe was designed through a higher being, that being God. Intelligent design is split into three smaller subsets, the first being irreducible complexity of which all objects and organisms in the universe have. Meaning they are very complex and are not able to be explained through the 'simplistic' means of natural selection and evolution theories.
Charles Tripicchio Soc 185 Scientology December 5, 2010 There are plenty of religions in the world. The more widely known religions focusing basically on a creator that made the universe for whatever reason and may or may not interact within the universe. Regardless or religious belief, they all have a founder and places they consider holy to the religion. From my first glance of scientology, I feel that it is an ecclesia and will read more about it. While scientology is not considered a religion on this table, I feel it still lacks things other religions have and believe also that things it claims are facts have been claimed to be wrong through science.
