Upholding Academic HonestyUpholding Academic Honesty Upholding academic honesty is about trust. This is the most important thing to the University of Phoenix and to the whole student body. In fact, it is no surprise to me that students are expected to conduct themselves ethically, honestly, and with integrity just like any job or professional business. Basically, treat others the way you want to be treated and respect others in such a way that students can mind their own business on personal matters. Being an adult is all about being responsible for your own actions, not blaming others and finally finding solutions for your own problems.
The prompt and definite punishments of zero tolerance have a deterrent effect upon students, thus improving overall student behavior and discipline. The perception of deterring future misbehavior is central to the philosophy of zero tolerance, and the impact of any consequence on future behavior is defining characteristic of effective punishment. Consequently, zero tolerance discourages future misbehavior. The students have a clear message of the school’s discipline policy. 2.
If there is Evidence of plagiarism, or any form of academic dishonesty, on any work for the course will receive an automatic score of zero for the exercise in question. The instructor may also take additional steps consistent with KCTCS regulations. This syllabus and schedule are subject to change as the instructor deems necessary. All Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) faculty and students are bound by principles of truth and honesty that are recognized as fundamental for a community of teachers and scholars. Henderson Community College expects students and faculty to honor, and faculty to enforce, these academic principles.
Duty theories state that an action is morally right if it is in accord with some list of duties and obligations, such as a school’s academic integrity policy. (DeVry Lecture). A student has the duty of following their academic code of integrity when turning in assessments; turning in someone else’s work would be a direct violation of this policy. Therefore, if we use deontological ethics to answer the question of whether using an essay writing service is unethical, the answer would be yes, it is unethical to use such a service because you are in violation of your duties to you school. However, applying a different ethical theory may result in a different
The University used the Consequentialism system; Utilitarism, which seeks the greatest good for the greatest number of people. Sandusky appeared to have good standards and great ethical influence at the school and in his community with the youth. This made the University choose to turn a blind eye and did nothing to further their investigation prior to Sandusky arrest. The humanistic system is based on the extremes of human behavior. Sandusky and some of his fellow employees’ behavior displayed extreme bad behaviors disregarding the law, work policy, and social status.
The Office of Judicial Affairs and Academic Integrity is here to assist you in understanding and/or instructing your students on the VCU Honor System - the University's academic integrity policy. As the spring semester progresses issues of academic integrity are sure to arise. Students may not be sure what would constitute a violation of the VCU Honor System or could benefit from a discussion of how to avoid finding themselves in a compromising situation. Perhaps faculty are unsure how to refer an alleged infraction for adjudication; or believe that they have the discretion to discipline the student . Student Conduct and Academic Integrity can offer a variety of presentations on the issues of academic integrity and the VCU Honor System.
Others authors were offended by Berry’s words because the article might seem aggressive and even attacking those authors who are used to write on computers. Berry is very decisive on his reasons, plus he tries to persuades his readers that buying a computer is a bad
“The admission culture of selective colleges today is characterized by a rising degree of deception and –no doubt, unintended –cruelty” (Delbanco 117). The selectivity of colleges, especially those of Ivy Leagues, can be hard to put into comparison with other colleges and universities. Ivy Leagues run on their own system, and no one can tell them how to do things because they have been established in America the longest. Colleges do not do this on purpose; it is just the way the system works. “Recruited athletes, alumni children, faculty children, members of historically underrepresented minority groups, and ‘development cases’ have an advantage, and by the time they have all been accounted for, the number of slots remaining can be extremely small compared with the ever-growing applicant pool” (Delbanco 117).
Many college students are posting inappropriate pictures and posting comments about substance abuse that violate student-conduct policies or local laws. Students these days are now being charged with code violations because of their Facebook postings. Online communities and texting also is being used as a form of cheating in the classroom. The author states a few institutions are blocking Facebook altogether. He thinks the students should be taught interpersonal intelligence and learn when, where, and what kind of internet usage is appropriate.
This framework was provided in chapter I by Theoharis (2009), and is essential in sifting out bad practices, attitudes, established rules and guidelines, racism, and discrimination. These practices must be all inclusive to welcome my colleagues ideas for change to intently make an impact in our students academic studies. Accepting positive and negative feedback from my colleagues without becoming upset or defensive, is in the best interest of our students success. Interchanging of ideas amongst my colleagues will create a network of talent, respect, and effective
