Abusive Technology on Learning In the past few decades, the world has experienced a tremendous change with the development of new technology. It has influenced people’s lives in many aspects and one of them is education. Matt Richtel, in his article “Technology Changing How Students learn, Teachers Say”, talks about how people perceive the impact of technology on study by presenting different evidences and making contrasts. Personally, due to the abuse of new technology, students have been negatively influenced in multiple ways: easily distract their attentions, hurt the ability of communication and thinking and even cause an excessive reliance on quick answers. First and foremost, though technology can be a tool of study, the fact is that students get easily addicted to it, which greatly distracts their focus. In the article Richtel points out despite of a lack of studies show technology affects students’ attention span, he argues, “…there is mounting indirect evidence that constant use of technology can affect behavior, particularly in developing brains, because of heavy stimulation and rapid shifts in attention.”(1) There is endless updated news and entertainments in the media. If using properly, students can relax themselves in break and learn new things. However, lack of seld-control, most students cannot keep themselves away from the distraction during study. So it is getting harder for them to pay constant focus because of frequent shifting their minds. Furthermore, the adoption of advanced techniques has remarkably hurt student’s productivity in learning. In the article, one of the surveys Richtel showing says “About 60 percent said it hindered students’ ability to write and communicate face to face, and almost half said it hurt critical thinking and their ability to do homework.” (2) Now because technology has been popularized, young people get
