Abusive Parents Child abuse has been around basically since the beginning of civilization and to this day, child abuse by parents is still quite pervasive. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of kids are abused by their parents and it's results are harrowing. Currently, abusive parents are responsible for around 5 child deaths a day, and 80% of those deaths involve children under the age of 4 years. Unbeknownst to most people, is the fact that there are several different types of child abuse. There is child neglect, emotional abuse/neglect, physical abuse, and even sexual abuse. Child neglect is done by parents who just do not spent much time with their children or talk with their children. Emotional abuse/neglect is when parents to not give enough attention to their children, which is very similar to child neglect. Physical abuse is any intentional and excessive physical injury to a child. Sexual abuse is similar to physical abuse but it involves molestation and rape . The effects of these various types of abuse are dreadful. Due to abusive parents, 30% of abused and neglected children will grow up to be abusive parents of their own, also 14% of men and 36% of all women in prison were abused by their parents as children. All abused children always have mental or physical scars that stay with them for the rest of their lives. Abused children have a tendency to feel worthless, cannot control their emotions, or lack trust in other people. The effects of abuse on a child can be little or severe, last a long or short time, and can affect the child both physically and mentally. Child abuse is a depressing thing to have in modern times, with abuse rising to a peak in recent years. If we do not put an end to child abuse, our society as a whole can not move forward into the
