Anna Fontenot Dr. Elmore Engl 1001 10 February 2012 Abortion: Sin Or Not? Human life is started in so many ways. It can be planned, unplanned, accidental, implanted, forced upon by rape, and so on. However, the mother is the only parent of the unborn child, who has the choice to whether or not to give birth to the embryo that’s growing inside of her, or to have an abortion, (to kill an unborn child), and disobey the Bible. In Dick Gregory’s “If You Had To Kill Your Own Hog,” it talks about one of the Ten Commandments from the Bible “Thou Shalt Not Kill.” In that story, it is referring to animals versus humans being killed. In my mind, “Thou Shalt Not Kill,” refers to every living thing that has a heartbeat. So therefore it’s a sin to have abortion. An embryo, an unborn baby in a mother’s womb, heart begins to beat at three weeks and one day after fertilization. Does one really know when an embryo becomes a human being? People from The National Organization For Women say “ A fetus is not a human being until very late in the pregnancy and in the first few weeks, (10-12), it is only a biological entily that is admidst its developmental stage.” In the United States, it is legal for women to have an abortion for up to twenty- four weeks pregnant. That’s murder in my eyes when a mother chooses to end the life of her unborn child. Even though the mother isn’t actually the one who kills her child, she is still the cause of the murder. Just like in another part of the story, “ To Kill Your Own Hog,” I quote, “ To hear the hog Scream, to see the blood spill, to see the baby being taken away from it’s momma, and to see the look of death on the ani,mal’s eye would turn your stomach. So get the man at the packing house to do the killing.” It’s the
