LINCOLN The film Lincoln seemed like a very accurate portrayal of the events that happened in that time period. The movie made the setting seem authentic, the scenery added touches that took me back in time. It made you feel like you were watching the actual recording of these events in real time. This film helped me realize what was actually going on during the civil war. The film portrays the period and events of the Civil War by representing the way people dressed, talked, acted, and believed in a precise fashion. The filmmakers did an astonishing job making the aftermath of the battles look gruesome and bloody, as they were in the real battles. The film also did a good job showing both sides’ opinions and beliefs on whether the Thirteenth Amendment should be passed, the movie really showed how violent and aggressive they were to try and get their way. The information I took in from the film was very different from what I had already known about the subject. Before watching the film, I did not know that the president actually went out to the delegates and asked and pleaded for their votes. I thought the only way they tried to get votes was by speeches and campaigns. From the quote in the picture (ie. Text pg. 473), I learned that Abe Lincoln was actually a very humble man and was the complete opposite of a tyrant. However, in the movie they characterized Lincoln to be a little cocky and demanding. Another difference in the information in the movie and my knowledge is that I was taught that Abe was a very racist man and hated all of the blacks, but in the movie, he seemed to be sympathetic and respectful toward the blacks. (ie. Text pg. 459) For the most part, the film was very accurate to my understanding, although there were a few things that caught my attention. For example, in the film, Abe Lincoln would wander around out in the battlefield
