1.) Write a two page summary of the article. Studies that have been conducted show that as the World’s population increases, so does the demand for food. Demand for food not only increases because of the number of the population, but increases for a number of reasons. As of right now, the World’s farmers produce more than enough food for the population and the part of the population that are left to starve, but the problem of the food being distributed incorrectly forces those of whom to go without. Even if the problem of getting access to food were to be fixed, there is the problem of having to produce twice as much food. I believe the least difficult solution for Americans would be to not expand the footprint of agriculture because we really do not have to worry about expanding into tropical rain forests or grasslands or anything of the sort. 4.) Which of the five suggested solutions do you think will be the most difficult for the World population to adopt and why? Apparently, farmers of every nationality around the world seem to think pesticides and herbicides are a good thing and the overuse of them makes their crops better, when in reality they could use a great deal less and see no difference in their crops. 5.) Which of the five suggested solutions do you think will be the least difficult for the World population to adopt and why? The reduction of food waste seems to be an incredibly easy fix. In most countries, families will only make enough food for them to eat and if they accidentally fix too much, they can store the food in the refrigerator for leftovers. 6.)
