In order to be successful one needs to have a great motivator. It takes a lot of determination, and patients in order to reach and surpass set goals. For me my motivator is success. I not only want to be successful but I feel the need to be successful in today’s day and age. From my experiences as a student I have come to the realization that education is a very powerful, enriched, and very promising tool to have.
Animals and plants make the visit to the city very difficult. Page 96 describes one of the many encounters Phoenix has with nature. While walking on the path to the town her dress gets stuck in a “thorny bush,” and since Phoenix is going into town she has her nicest clothing on. After struggling for a few minutes she finally is able to break free without a scratch on her or her outfit. Plants are not her only problem; “A black dog with a lolling tongue came up out of
What dog that has been humanized could go and live someplace where there are no humans and have to hunt for all food? On the main page there are two spots with click to text bars that once clicked on take you to products for sale and working on the island. I first clicked on the items for sale and it was a leash for $60, I laughed very loudly. Then I clicked on the employment section, which was also another laugh out loud, if the dogs are going to be dehumanized why would they be looking for
The Importance of Secondary Characters Secondary Characters, also called “foils,” are important in developing the main characters. In “A Worn Path,” “The Chrysanthemums,” and “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall,” there were all very significant characters who brought out the true colors of Granny Weatherall, Elisa, and Phoenix. In almost all short stories, the main characters are, in a way, the story itself. However, most cases present the main character as a product of their environment, their surroundings, and other people who they encounter. This makes foil characters very important to the development of the story.
During Phoenix journey she traveled alone through the dark pinewood shadows and she talks aimlessly amongst herself. She constantly looked up into the skies as if she was asking for slight request in a prayer form. There were also a few idioms placed with in the short story for example, “a yellow burning under the dark, keep out from under these feet and an odor like copper” (Welty 2-3). There are quite a few ways you may perceive this story; I felt that the writer was stereotyping black women of the past when I first read the story. From the way the story was written it talked about black women’s hairstyle, clothes they wore, lack of education, and the certain usage of words.
She wants to return to her virtuousness self and have a source of strength and inspiration. “Theme” Coming of Age Like many other books on memoirs and coming of age, “Almost A Woman” moves along the common thematic lines like parent-child conflicts, sibling rivalries, the path to adulthood, friendships, relationships with the opposite sex, and social issues. It is evident that the transition in coming of age is not easy because of the many challenges Negi and her family faced. For instance, as she comes of age, Esmeralda Santiago takes over the life multi-roles of student, daughter, and interpreter for her family. She lacks the ability to speak good English, her family is poor, and she is alienated because she comes from a different culture.
Plot: The exposition of the story is about Phoenix Jackson an elder negro women with her courage and determination to go against all the odds against her that gives the impact in the story, The rising action of this story begins shortly after Phoenix Jackson went deeper and deeper down the road between high green colored banks. Overhead the live-oaks met, and it was as dark as a cave. When suddenly a black dog came out the weeds. She thought to herself “ That black dog come out of the weeds to stall you off and now there he sitting on his fine tail, smiling at you”. Soon after a young white man with a gun comes along and he laughs at Phoenix and ask what she was doing there.
What I have come to realize from this though, is that is isn’t the destination that is so important. It isn’t about getting to the end point; there will always be an end point, and always a new thing I am trying to get to. Instead it is the journey that is important. Every step we take along the way that makes life wonderful. Though every step Phoenix took got her closer to her destination, it was every obstacle that she overcame that made her stronger, that made her who she was.
In life we face difficult periods but those times reflect us who we are. In the novel “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zola Neale Hurston there was a girl, Janie who went through many obstacles growing up. Janie’s upbringing affected her life choices by looking for love, being raised strictly, and not knowing that she was colored. She also had relationships that did not end well. Janie grew to learn how to go through struggles and overcome them.
I Used to Live Here Once by Jean Rhys: A Literary Analization In the short story of Jean Rhys’ I Used to Live Here Once, the author tells a story of a woman, on what seems like a nice day out for a walk. As you read into the story you will find that there is a theme and a few different symbolisms that take place. These themes and symbolisms take a somewhat normal short story and turn it into a very artistic way of telling a story of a woman on a journey. The theme is based around a woman who experiences memories of where she used to live. In this short story, it is through her experiences, that she realizes she is no longer living, hence the last line of the story, (Rhys, 1976) “That was the first time she knew.” Although the story may seem basic at first, the ending can be quite surprising.
