A Worldview Through Genesis Whether you realize it or not, you have a worldview. Everyone has at least some set of beliefs or opinions about the biggest questions in life such as ‘Where am I?’, ‘Who am I?’, and, most importantly, ‘Is there a God?’ The first eleven chapters of Genesis serve as an excellent source to find the answers to some of these immensely important questions. We can often learn much from our history’s successes and shortcomings and the same applies here with the Bible. From the Creation of the Earth to the tower of Babel, the Bible explains to us the origins of our world, the essence of our being, the purpose of our relationships, and the beginning of civilizations, therefore shaping my worldview. Where does the Earth come from? Genesis chapter one, verses 1-25 explain how God created the natural earth by speaking it into existence. As it says in the text, this process took 6 days to complete, unlike the 4.54 billion years proposed by some evolutionists (Cain, Fraser). Reading this helps me shape my worldview in understanding that God is our Creator and that He is all-powerful. If God can create all that I know out of nothing, what limits could he possibly have? In Genesis 1:11, God says, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth”. This is another reason why we can believe that God did not create the world through evolution, because everything reproduces “according to its kind”. Who are we? Genesis chapter one, verses 26-28 explain that we, the human race, were created in God’s image, “after [His] likeness” (Genesis 1:26). Humans are the only creations of God that were created in this way. God gave mankind the authority to have “dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and
