“A White Heron” by Sarah Orne Jewett and “The Man Who Was Almost a Man” by Richard Wright are very similar stories. They are both initiation stories about decision-making told from a female point of view and a male point of view. “A White Heron” Sylvia a young girl who lives with her grandmother, Mrs. Tilley, has a very routine life. She actually says that her daily job of walking the cow to and from the pasture is so familiar that she can do it in the dark without any light guiding her feet. Her ritualistic life is shook up when she runs into a handsome young man who is hunting for birds.
The Yearling, by Marjorie Rawlings, illustrates how Jody's sense of responsibility helped him to resolve his conflict between meeting his own need to raise the fawn and meeting his family's need for survival. Jody enjoyed the responsibilities of raising the fawn. Jody went looking for moss, grass, and leaves to make a bed for the fawn the first night he got him. Jody liked to go on walks with the fawn especially at morning when there was still dew on the grass and trees. He also liked to sit with Flag holding him and tell him about his day, his adventures, everything.
However, Sally Carrol loves going to the cemetery where she feels comfortable. Sally says, “Even when I cry I’m happy here, and I get a sort of strength from it” (Fitzgerald Chapter Ⅱ). In the cemetery, Margery Lee who Sally muses on and those Confederate soldiers give Sally the courage to pursue a better life. Although those soldiers are unknown after they die, they indeed die for the most beautiful thing in the world---the dead South. People always have dreams and they fight for their dream.
Chelsea, Ethel and Norman’s daughter, brings her new boyfriend, Billy Ray, and his son, Billy Ray Jr., to the cottage on golden pond to visit. Chelsea asks Ethel if it was okay to leave Billy Jr. with her and Norman for a month while Billy Ray and her go on vacation alone. Ethel and Norman agree to watch him while they are gone. Norman isn’t to happy about watch him, but he grows to like him a lot and they become really good friends. Once Chelsea comes back she tells everyone that her and Billy got married.

Samantha Leigh Bakker Samantha Leigh Bakker is a 15 year old girl, who was born on May 27th, 1996 in Muster Indiana at Community Hospital. Sam as they call her by her nickname grew up mostly in Gray and Griffith Indiana. She is currently living in Griffith Indiana with her mom and her little brothers. Sam is the daughter of Nancy Bakker, a preschool teacher and the older sister of two little brothers named Eric Bakker a seven year old and Ryan Bakker a eleven year old. Sam went to Beirgier Elemtery in Griffith growing up, she now attends Griffith High School in Indiana, she says.” I enjoy school and the responsible that come with it as growing up.
Determined to run away, she wakes up early one morning and wanders off into the woods behind her house. After walking for a long time in no actual direction, she comes to a clearing. From behind the trees, she sees a handsome boy drinking from a hidden spring under a big tree. She is very thirsty, so she walks up to the boy to try to drink from the spring, too. They introduce each other, and Jesse insists that Winnie does not drink from the spring.
Now she is here at Madison College for her first year where she is taking courses for nursing. After learning about where Jenna is from and where she attended school we began to talk about our hobbies and interest more, where we again found some common ground. Rachel Louise Carson was born on May 27, 1907 in Springdale, Pennsylvania. She was born to Robert Warden and Maria McLean Carson on an old farm where they raised animals. Carson’s family was poor. Her father traveled a lot for work and while he was away, Carson’s mother gave piano lessons. Carson lived in a tiny farmhouse with the rest of her four family members.
