A group of girls get together on a Saturday night for the typical all girl sleepover. Like always, there’s going to be a lot of gossip, tears, laughs, and talk about unsuccessful relationships; so for a time like this there is no movie better than a romantic chick flick directed by Adam Shankman. This teen romantic drama film was based off of a Nicholas Sparks novel that was written in the late 1990s; in the novel the setting is in the 1950s, so it’s a dramatic change that the director and script writer chose to change the time period to the early 2000s. This one hour and forty-two minute movie is the type of movie that makes the viewer wonder what would happen if their loved one was struck with such an illness that was life-threatening. Though the movie was based off a book that was a tribute to the author’s sister, Shankman did a fantastic job showing how the main characters (Landon and Jamie) relationship developed, scenery will give the viewer a homey feeling, a theme focused around hope, and unexpected scenes. The inspiration for A Walk to Remember was from Nicholas Sparks’ sister, Danielle. Danielle, like main character in the movie Jamie Sullivan, played by Mandy Moore, passed away in 2000 from cancer. She met a man that wanted to marry her even though he knew that she was sick and might not make it. After his sister’s death, Sparks made a speech and admits that, “In many ways, Jamie Sullivan was my younger sister.” Jamie Sullivan is a quiet yet kind girl that is just trying to live her life day by day. She loves the drama club, singing, and also is an avid reader of various types of literature. Most of her free is spent helping disadvantage kids on the weekend and also spending a large amount of time with her father who care for her deeply.
