Prejudice was a good topic to talk about and to be recognized, and Battle Royal fit the toll perfectly. I had the idea of prejudice, but I was able to elaborate on it more with the help of my classmates and professor. I would also like to acknowledge and thank my friend Christopher Martin for reading over my paper and giving helpful insights. I always find that a peer knows how to understand what one is trying to say or help to make sense of it. He offered a lot of help and was willing to make notes on my paper to attempt at helping me make my paper the best it could possibly be.
Reading is an important part of everyday life. That’s why me and my mom read the book “The Glory Field” and had an interview. We talked about the protagonist of the book, the setting of the book, and the plot. The main conflict me and my mom had was “Should Lizzy had went along with Lem and Joshua?”. The interview was exciting and we mostly had the same views about the story.
I learned she faced many hard times growing up in a sharecropper family, I can only imagine what life must have been for her. But what I found most prestigious is her awards and accolades she has earned for the literature she has composed. Alice Walker earned the Pulitzer Prize award for some of her past literature so when I seen some of her work was in our text, I knew I wanted to
I also think that the main reason I actually chose this scene was because of how well the author described it, so I had the image in my head the entire time I was reading the book. It wasn’t that hard to build and I had fun building and putting together the scene the way I imagined it. It was fun for the most part and I enjoyed building the Morgan's new home and I'm happy that Shane finally found a place he can call a
Summary Response Amadeo Constanzo is the author of “Do You Really Think You Are a Good Writer?” and he believes that if you are in a remedial class English then “instead of wasting time and energy on negative thoughts, use the energy and time to improve your writing” or other skills. Constanzo supports remedial classes because even the best athletes train to be better just like a writer practices to become a better writer. I very much agree with Constanzo because the majors I currently have would eventually deal a lot with presentation documents. I am also in remedial English and I know that it would help me becoming a better writer. Benjamin Franklin once said “If a man empties his purse into his head no one can take it away from him.
| Book Review | | English 135 | | Book Review | | English 135 | Professor Lisa Shuchter July 22, 2012 Professor Lisa Shuchter July 22, 2012 A good book to me is one that can catch my attention from the first sentence and keep my attention throughout the entire book. I love well written books that I can visualize with as I am reading. I love an author that can use words and phrases to keep me guessing throughout the book, it gives me the urge to want to know what is going to happen next. I want to keep reading to get to the end to fully understand what the author’s purpose is. I love a story that is very detailed because it gives me the chance to place myself in the story and really get into it.
Dear Classmate, A Child Called “It” is one of my favorite books. I read it for the first time in my speech class for my speech about child abuse. I had heard a lot about it and how good it was so I decided to read it. Unlike other novels lying around, this book caught my attention and kept me very interested, I could not put it down. It makes you think about what some kids go through everyday. This book was a definite eye opener to abuse.
RH, Campolindo High School Tom's book was a crucial part of my preparation for the SAT. It not only taught me how to write an essay but it also gave me the confidence to do so. I don't know how I could possibly face the SAT essay without this helpful information. In addition, my sister used this material and ended up getting a perfect score on her paper. Tom's book will relieve any fears you have about writing the SAT essay.
It was worth every question and worksheet to where I am now. I have had a great year and was faced with many challenges but all in all I did a pretty good job and improved all my English skills hugely. I’ve always been a good reader through school but even my reading skills improved this year. We read a selection of great books that have helped me understand big concepts. I felt that Night by Elsie Wesile and Anthem by Alice Hoffman should be taught next year because they were the most interesting and had the most impact on me as the reader.
No one should be hated because of where they are from or what they look like. I can somewhat relate to this novel in the family and school sort of way. I have a very loving family (not a mean dad), and my school experience is and will be a lot like Francisco’s. I am planning on going through high school and college, just like Francisco. Both books were interesting and inspiring to read, and it was fun to learn about Parvana and Francisco’s
