Gabriel Silverio December 6, 2012 The Ups and Downs of Phineas In this excellent story A Separate Peace written by John Knowles one of the main characters, Phineas is a very well rounded young man and I feel strongly connected to him. I see myself being very similar to Finny in multiple ways. The first way I am similar to Finny is that me and him share an extreme athletic ability and love sports. The second reason is that Finny and I have very similar personalities and attitudes. The last reason is that I can relate to Finny in ways such as his injury. Me and Finny are quite similar people and seem to be on the same page. The first major similarity between Finny and me is our respect for sports and our athletic ability. The only slight difference in this category between us is that although Finny is also competitive he just loves playing sports and doesn’t care about winning or losing and I care a lot in that regard which is quite funny but I hate losing. Otherwise Finny and I are very similar regarding sports we both love to always be active and get people involved. Finny actually invents a game called Blitzball just to always be playing a sport and I do the same in the summer I will come up with some sort of game to play just to keep active. This quote is after Gene and Finny were done wrestling and when they were on their way to a dinner, “And there was only one way to show him this. “I threw my hip against his, catching him by surprise, and he was instantly down, definitely pleased. When I jumped on top of him, my knees on his chest, he couldn’t ask for anything better.” (Knowles 19) this quote shows just how much Finny enjoys physical activity and the playfulness of him, it also shows how he loves getting his friends involved in physical activities considering he was happy that he just got tackled.
