A Reflective View of Human Resources Management Grace Biegel Ashford University: BUS 303 Human Resources Management Instructor: Catherine Frost 6/21/2015 Introduction Everywhere around the world, businesses compete with each other to be the best of the best. An organization needs different resources to be successful which includes financial backing, a market for their product and/or services, the right technology, and most importantly the people who can organize, lead, and control these resources. It is imperative for an organization to be successful, that it be an employer that can manage its workforce while remaining competitive in the marketplace. Depending on the size and structure of the organization, the proper management of the workforce is handled by upper management or a dedicated department called Human Resources. No matter who or how this is handled, the structure of human resources is responsible for the recruitment, selection, and management of the company’s workforce, which is made up of qualified, knowledgeable employees. In the textbook Human Resources Management, Carolyn Youssef defines “Human resource management (HRM) as the managing of human skills and talents to make sure they are used effectively and in alignment with an organization’s goals” (2012, ch. 1.1). To keep up with the advances in technology and the globalization of business, human resources (HR) is responsible for acquiring, training, organizing, and motivating an organization’s diverse workforce, all while enforcing company policies to ensure the organization is legally in compliance with internal and government regulations. In this paper I will reflect on what I have learned in regards to areas of human resources management, including Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) and Affirmative Action, Human Resource Planning, Recruitment and Selection, Human Resource
