Reflect on Managerial Competencies As a manager I have frequently challenged to respond to situations involving competing tensions or values. Basis to act as a manager is to realize continuous development obligation. Manager has to be effective and efficient. Nowadays we are in a period of intense competition because of the globalization and rapidly developing technology. Effectiveness and efficiency of manager can determine success or failure of organization. Effective manager should know yourself, strengths and weaknesses and people working with him and around. Finding your own strengths and weaknesses as a manager gives the opportunity to see what you really need to be improved and what is outline a plan for improving. But some can stay on the same level. Recent research on managerial leadership has identified eight roles essential for effective management: Producer, Director, Coordinator, Monitor, Mentor, Facilitator, Innovator and Broker. They are presented at Competing Values Framework which shows the inherent contradiction facing organizations and managers on two axes or dimensions. First dimension is one of focus: internal versus external. This axis reflects the expectation managers have that organizations should be interested with both what goes on inside the organization, as well as with producing for and servicing an external environment. The vertical axis of the Competing Values Framework presents the opposing expectations of flexibility and control. Organizations should be flexible and able to respond many needs and situations and to be dynamic as also to adapt to changes in their external environment. These two axes form four quadrants. First one located in the lower right quadrant and named the rational goal model. There are two managerial leadership roles associated with this quadrant Producer and Director.
