A Practical Application of Human Resource Management as Related to Strategic Planning Katherine Traviglia Managing Human Resources: SPRING15-A-8-HRM500-1 Colorado State University – Global Campus Professor Carol Miller March 22, 2015 A Practical Application of Human Resource Management as Related to Strategic Planning Organizations nationwide have new challenges facing them daily. A more recent challenge in organizations and thus Human Resources departments revolves around the ever changing workforce as millennials enter the workforce and baby boomers exit. With this adjustment to the workforce coming organizations today need to review how they operate to ensure that they are able to meet the demands of the new workforce. “Organizations that do not put their emphasis on attracting and retaining talents may find themselves in dire consequences, as their competitors may be outplaying them in the strategic employment of their human resources,” (Chan, 2014). It is important that HR Divisions understand the development of strategic plans for the organization as well as ensuring that divisions are applying a company’s strategic plan. The Human Resources department is responsible for attracting and retaining talent and needs to focus on positive results. “HR deals with many issues, but probably the biggest challenges facing HR Departments today are Recruitment, Retention & Motivation, addressing these issues has become a continual and time consuming process,” (HR Affiliates, 2014). This knowledge requires that those in Human Resources roles are actively participating in and identifying the plans and goals of the organization to ensure that the department is aligned with and following that mission and goals as outlined and defined.
