Throughout the book depression is a big issue for Holden. It has also become an issue for American teenagers. Depression brings up the thought of suicide, which also seems to be a problem with American teens. A number of times throughout the book Holden has even said how depressing certain situations where. It has been said that when hearing about depressing or sad things it makes others sad or depressed as well.
The thought of living in constant fear, with only the expectation of more pain to come has driven some to take their own lives in hope of ending their suffering. In 2011, twenty-two of Clark county's youths were successful in carrying out their suicide attempts(Milliard, 2011). It is also becoming more common for victims of bullying to seek revenge for their injustices by harming mass amounts of students. Not everyone is capable of brushing aside the hurt and anguish caused to them by a bullying, just because they have gotten older. Some victims turn into bullies themselves; preying on the weak, just as they had been preyed
Norman also suggested the need to reevaluate the true significance of being alive. Supporting this assertion, he explained how some societies have implemented penalties towards family members of suicide victims. In hopes this may deter someone from committing any self-inflicted death. Further, he posited even without respect to religion, customs and attitudes from
The sensory dimension, the nature (eg sharp, dull, burning), location and intensity of the pain. The affective dimension, the emotional part (eg fear, depression, anxiety) and response to pain. The impact, how is this effecting the individual participation in everyday activities. Pain location, an attempt should be made to locate the pain ask the individual to point out where the pain is. In the article “Just whom is this Divorce good for? By Marquart she explains, “We found that children of so- called “good” divorces often do worse even than children of unhappy low- conflict marriages. They say more often, that family life was stressful and they had to grow up to soon. They are themselves more likely to divorce and children of divorce feel like divided selves”. I would have to agree with that because I am actually going through my parents getting a divorce and when I found out I didn’t want to believe it at all I didn’t want to see my parents split up it just wasn’t right to me.
Bullying victims can have a lot of stress added on and it can lead to retaliation such as school shootings as well as suicide. Cyber bullying is the more modern type of bullying and some argue that it's the most harmful. When it comes to cyber bullying anyone can become the bully. The small scrawny kid can be just as harmful as the big kid on the playground. Cyber bullying can have a longer lasting effect on the victim.
Gun violence in the USA Based on the latest events, which would be the recent school shootings, you might think that it is often exposed younger individuals with a missing ability to contain their anger and frustrations that end up with being the cause of gun violence. The children who are re-sponsible for these school shootings are often poor when it comes to social relations. Bad parenting and bullying could be examples to why a child could be stressed and out casted enough to perform such an action as killing other people. When given the possibility these young people can, in the moment of frustration, exploit the law in such a way that it leads to murder, for example through school shooting. One of the main reasons to why such events as school shooting does not appear to happen as often in other countries might be because the USA is the only country with so loose weapon-laws, where it is relatively easy to get your hands on a deadly firearm.
There is absolute empirical evidence through studies and years of experience that an attempt at suicide is often a challenge to see if anyone really is listening or cares about the individual seeking help. “In fact, studies have indicated that 93-94% of those committing suicide suffer from some identifiable mental disorder”. Legalizing PAS would open the door for people with mental illness to end a life that has worth, meaning and value. Society would view life as worthless if an individual is not fully productive and interacting within its own society. There has never been a so-called “duty to die” and the law is what teaches us what is right and wrong.
3. The families of victims should be considered and be allowed closure and justice for their loss. My position is that teenagers who commit murder, especially heinous murders, should be tried as adults. Teenagers should really think twice because I really don’t believe that our brain development has anything to do with it. Because if you can be sexually active at 16 or at younger age you know
Teen Suicide Does anyone actually know what a teenager goes through in life? What they are really thinking about? It seems that teens like to keep a lot to themselves but that only makes a situation worse. Teens who attempt or commit suicide can be an outcome of depression, bullying, and even guilt. Just like Conrad’s parents in Ordinary People by Judith Guest, many are unaware of the dangers and thoughts faced by teens that could lead to suicide.
