A English spelling 1. Give an outline of the view on English spelling presented in texts 1 and texts 2: Text 1 “Proper Spelling? It is Tyme to Let Luce!” is an article from the website of the American magazine “WIRED”. The professor Anne Trubek wrote the article back in January 2012. Anne is a strong opponent of autocorrect. She thinks it doesn’t make us any favors, autocorrect is only given us false results. Grammar in English spelling is just an evolution. We have to lose our idea of correct spelling, delete all the grammar permissions and instead just let ourselves decide how we want to spell. She’s writing (text 1, line 22 – 24) “English spelling is a terrible mess, and full of arbitrary contrivances and exceptions that outcome rules.” In centuries we communicated without spelling rules, and it was not a big problem. We have to play with the languages, and make an end of the English spelling nightmare. Text 2 “Spelling: A Rebuttal From Wired’s Copydeck” is also an article from the website of the American magazine “WIRED”, it is written by Lee Simmons, writer and editor on WIRED magazine. The article was published on January 31, 2014 following Anne Trubeks article. Lee Simmons have a different view on spelling. He considers it is necessary to have some rules, in order to prevent misunderstanding. If we didn’t have correct grammar in English spelling it would take muck longer to read, because of words devoid of meaning. He agrees with Anne Trubek, “English spelling is a terrible mess”. In our SMS’s, invitations, grocery lists it’s okay to spell incorrect. But should government officials feel free to “play with language” (text 2, line 77 – 78). 2.
