UNIT 86 SUPPORT INDIVIDUALS TO MAINTAIN PERSONAL HYGIENE 1.1. Explain why personal hygiene is important From maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene an individual feels clean, presentable and comfortable. Through looking presentable and feeling clean an individual’s self esteem and self respect rises. There is less chance of infections developing and therefore the external body is healthier. Personal hygiene means the cleaning and grooming of the external body to make sure the skin, nails and hair are in a good condition.
Parents and children may need help to overcome the bad feelings. Mental health professionals can educate parents about ADHD and how it impacts a family. They also will help the child and his or her parents develop new skills, attitudes, and ways of relating to each other. Downs Syndrome Down syndrome, also known as Down’s syndrome, is a genetic condition that usually causes some level of learning disability and a range of physical features. Most babies born with Down syndrome are diagnosed after birth and will be likely to have hypotonia which is reduced muscle tone leading to floppiness, eyes that slant upwards and outwards, palmar crease which is when their palm may have only one crease across it, a below average weight and length at birth.
This period, known as late adulthood, begins around early to middle 60’s. At this point, the cognitive and physical processes both undergo different changes which can include memory loss, slowed reaction times, graying hair, and even bone shrinkage (Feldman, 2011). It is, however, not all loss during this stage as the older generation can equally retain their cognitive functions and maintain a healthy physical appearance through appreciating and facing new experiences, being as active as possible, and most importantly, paying attention to changes with their bodies so as to seek out medical attention as early as possible. BABY BOOMERS In the United States the population that forms the adult population between the ages of 65 and 70 between 1970 and 1999 grew by seventy-four percent. The predictors of this information estimate that the elderly group will grow at a rapid

Personal hygiene means the cleaning and grooming of the external body to make sure the skin, nails and hair are in a good condition. This is done to keep the body and hair clean and free from infections.
Although competing demands of patient, family, and physician have risen, the nurse’s first priority is always providing care that ensures patient safety and protects the best welfare of the patient. A nurse is subject to a malpractice lawsuit if incompetent care results in patient harm. When a nurse cares for patients, he or she takes on the duties and responsibilities to care for the patient in a skilled and thorough manner. Nurses are expected to provide the same quality of care
Critique of Virginia Henderson: Need Theory Many theorists have come up with conceptual models that tried to define and explain nursing, one of which is by Virginia Henderson (1966). In this model, she stated that “the unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual, sick or well, in performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or peaceful death) that he/she would perform unaided if he/she had the necessary strength, will or knowledge. And to do this in such a way as to help him/her gain independence as rapidly as possible” (Henderson, 1966). This paper presents an analysis and evaluation of Henderson’s nursing theory using Fawcett`s framework of analysis and evaluation of conceptual models of nursing (2000). The person as defined in Henderson’s model is all encompassing; it applies to the sick, the well and the dying.
Unit 4222-249 Principles of supporting an individual to maintain personal hygiene (LD 206) Outcome 1 Understand the importance of good personal hygiene. The leaner can: 1 Explain why personal hygiene is important From maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene an individual feels clean, presentable and comfortable. Through looking presentable and feeling clean an individual’s self esteem and self respect rises. There is less chance of infections developing and therefore the external body is healthier. Personal hygiene means the cleaning and grooming of the external body to make sure the skin, nails and hair are in a good condition.
Theoretical Framework Virginia Henderson’s Need Theory As a patient receives treatment and is on the road to recovery, it's important that the patient is able to take care of him or herself after being released from medical care. To that end, nurses should be caring for the patient while, at the same time, be helping the patient become more independent and reach goals and milestones on the road to health. Virginia Henderson's Need Theory addresses this issue and helps nurses help patients so that they can care for themselves when they leave the healthcare facility. Henderson defined nursing as “Assisting the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or it’s recovery (or to peaceful death) that an individual would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge”. She identified 14 basic needs as breathing normally; eating and drinking adequately; eliminating body wastes; moving and maintaining desirable position; sleeping and resting; selecting suitable clothes; maintaining body temperature within normal range; keeping the body clean and well-groomed; avoiding dangers in the environment; communicating with others; worshiping according to one’s faith; working in such a way that one feels a sense of accomplishment; playing/participating in various forms of recreation; learning, discovering or satisfying the curiosity that leads to normal development and health and using available health facilities.
Nursing Documentation and Malpractice Law HCS/545 Health Law and Ethics May 31, 2010 Mary Nell Cummings Nursing Documentation and Malpractice Lawsuits Proper medical documentation can prevent liability issues and malpractice lawsuits. The focus on my paper will concentrate on nursing documentation and malpractice lawsuits. I presently work for a home health care agency. The entire staff throughout the company was recently informed of increased Medicare denials and possible lawsuits as results of inadequate documentations. A series of education training of documentation was implemented to help reduce episodes of Medicare payment denials and self-protection through adequate documentation.
