Certainly you are not alone in being shocked and disgusted by Swift’s proposal! He states a plethora of atrocities such as how to cook children – babies! - (p. 803) and how they are best prepared. However, the reaction this evokes is exactly what Swift wants. He wanted to show his audience the desperation of the situation that Ireland, his home country, was put through.
This image will play a role in guiding the reader’s emotion throughout the essay. Next, the author’s persona provides his “solution” to this national dilemma. The modest proposal, which ironically is not modest at all, is to butcher the infants of the poor and serve them as a new delicacy for the wealthy. As a side note, Swift includes that this meat is, “very proper for landlords, who…have already devoured most of the parents” (676). Here, Swift directly links his
The six benefits listed by Swift are all plausible ideals that are widely wished for and they would give the economy a very good advantage. Swifts proposal is in answer to the massive growth of the underprivileged populous in Dublin, a city in Ireland. The recent rise in population growth in Dublin is indeed a detriment to their society for fear of overcrowding. The solution of selling children as meat would definitively solve the population growth problem while providing the people of Dublin, Ireland with a new form of nutrients and a new staple of food. With many of these children possibly growing up with no skills and nourishment the best possible solution in Swift’s opinion is to turn these people, who do not nor
End Vision First, I think that implementing a good management plan by the upper level management is very important for KFF’s to succeed as a company. Having a replacement inventory coordinator who purchases the best possible products for all three stores, Also, having a person who controls the accounts payable, receivables, and finances that coordinate all vendors get paid on time will allow Kathy Kudler to focus more on duties that need more attention. For instance, implement a better website for the business will give better benefits to customer, therefore, sells will increase. The company needs to understand the difference between having a website and having an effective website. The website that is in place in KFF only displays the goods and services.
With the trends of healthy eating becoming more prominent in the marketplace, Chipotle has an advantage with their ability to provide the consumer with fresher products than their competition. Another strength of Chipotle is that they have a tendency to promote personnel from within the company. This allows the company to maintain their high standards by retaining employees who are knowledgeable about the product and expectations of the company and their customers. Ells stated that “we can teach people how to run a Chipotle…but you can’t teach someone how to be polite and hospitable and high-energy and smart and ambitious and curious and happy and respectful and honest and presentable and conscientious and motivated and infectiously enthusiastic” (Huffingtonpost.com). This prompted Monty Moran, co-CEO, to develop the “restaurateur program” which gives employees the ability to advance quickly through the ranks of the company.
He was mocking how many illogical and impractical plans were proposed by the Irish government. They were attempting to pass these plans in order to improve the welfare of the people. Swift proposed this illogical plan of raising babies and eating them in order to relieve the economic trouble of the country. Swift uses satire in an almost practical way by supporting his plan with points that make it seem logical and beneficial to the country when in reality it would completely destroy the country. Swift uses satire to point out a problem and then assert an insane and illogical fix in order to cure it.
The political theme of A Modest Proposal is that of societal ills inflicted by policies that feed to the greedy. The Absurdities carried out in A Modest Proposal is used to attack contemporary English and Irish politics. The figurative “devouring” of Ireland’s resources by England’s policies and by wealthy Irish landowners criticizes the positions of both parties. In exposing the rationalizations of the irrational narrator, Swift is exposing the rationalizations used by many wealthy English landowners, who often use such generalizations to cover up or explain away the true sources of poverty. The way in which Swift expresses the irrationality and greed of the wealthy English landowners is through humor.

This means as shift in the equilibrium point to a point that is further along the quantity axis and lower on the price axis meaning that the overall quantity of sales has risen but the price per good has fell. Also by introducing food subsidies it will cause a variety of positive externalities. These include a more productive work force as more workers will be a healthy diet allowing them to work harder and for longer without becoming tired and fatigued. This will also help to lower NHS costs as with a reduction in food prices some people will now be able to afford better quality foods and move away from high fat foods such as ready-made meals.
Also, buying healthier snacks may not taste as sweet as donuts or cakes but they do cost less. Students who decide to buy apples and oranges will save a few dollars, compared to those students who are buying donuts and cakes, because the money will start to add up more than they think it will. Making decisions such as eating healthier will also keep students healthy thus providing them with the nutrients to think and perform better during class. My aunt introduced an idea to me which makes sense and also saves money. The idea is called “Pot-lucking”, this is where people from the same dorm or floor puts money together and buys food for all students on the floor one week, and then the next week a different room has the same plan.
