A Midsummer’s Love Affair Love is not all that you think it is. You think that you may hate or love someone so much but in the end that may all change. In the play A Midsummer’s Nights Dream by William Shakespeare love is constantly changing. In the beginning of the play Demetrious is in love with Hermia and wants to marry her. For example Shakespeare illustrates the point when he writes, “Relent sweet Hermia and, Lysander, yield thy crazed title to my certain right.” (1.1.13) Demetrious was telling Hermia that she should listen to her father and marry him and telling Lysander that Hermia belongs to him. Eventually as the play goes on Demetrious is put under a spell by some love potion and he falls madly in love with Helena and forgot all about Hermia. For example Shakespeare illustrates the point when he writes, “I wot not by what power but by some power it is my love to Hermia melted as the snow….the object and the pleasure of mine eye is only Helena.” (4.1.125) Demetrious is saying that he doesn’t know how but something had made his love for Hermia fade away, and now the only person he loves and believes in is Helena. In the middle of this play the fairy queen Titania falls in love with an ass that is known as Bottom because she is put under a spell from the love juice. For example Shakespeare illustrates the point when he writes, “Thou art as wise as thou art beautiful.” (3.1.73) Titania is still under the spell and is telling Bottom that he is as wise as he is beautiful. But as love is always changing Titania is removed from the love spell and goes off into the distance with Oberon. For example Shakespeare illustrates the point when he writes, “Come, my lord, and in our flight tell me how it came this night that I sleeping here was found with these mortals on the ground.” (4.1.121) Love can come from nothing and there is a great saying “All is
