Technology is evolving rapidly day by day, and as everything in evolution, it is the survival of the fittest. The print newspaper industry with its emergence some 300 years ago grew exponentially in its circulation until the first challenge it faced came from radio and then TV in the mid 20th century. Due to these 2 inventions, newspaper circulation began a gradual but steady decline as they ceased to become the only source of news for people. Broadcast media then relayed news much more quickly. As TV usage became more widespread and news telecasts became more sophisticated, it didn’t take much time for it to become the premier mass medium. This trajectory of TV dominance furthered shot upwards with the rise of 24 hour news channel (BBC, CNN) churning news every second as various events take place around the world. This first hit that the print newspaper industry suffered were of the afternoon and evening dailies, as people who came home from work turned on the TV instead of opening the newspapers. TV also started to siphon off major ad revenues that newspapers had relied on. But even then, with TV grabbing the a larger and larger chunk of audience and revenues, newspapers still survived as people looked forward to reading them in the morning and soak in the kind of in-depth analysis that TV news never did. For newspapers this was the new game plan, and savvy news editors published papers with this mindset. More stories started to be written in a feature type approach that provided the readers with more analysis and sensational storytelling rather than breaking news-which already had been dispersed by TV-and more appealing visual pages, with a greater emphasis on design and layout that entices people to open up the newspapers.
