the main character Mac is an employee in a burger joint. Him and his wife have been working there for a long time and still have gotten nowhere. One day while working his shift some teenagers cause trouble and Mac is the one to throw them out. This gets him praise but not a raise. Later he gets told by his bestfriend Banco that his manager has been stealing money from the register for awhile.
Where are the papers at that I told you to do about our financial issues? You looking dumb saying to yourself, I should have paid attention at the meeting yesterday. Now I am at risk of losing my job all because I did not pay attention in the meeting. The funny part is your boss fires you because you did not pay attention in the meeting. That day when the women came to speak, and class was over, I put myself in her shoes see what she went thru; it is hard to try to talk over like 30 kids in one room.

The customers came in so rude and disgusting, like they had no respect for themselves or anyone else. This disgrace carries on throughout the story as Franklin is embarrassed and uncomfortable working at a fast food restaurant because of his high qualifications. He is confronted by a man in the bathroom whom the author assumes thinks that he got his girlfriend pregnant and never graduated high school. It is clear that Franklin is very self-conscious as he states, “I want to tell him that I'm in the top 5 percent of students at my college, that I am two semesters away from graduating, and that I'm on my way to grad school to get a Ph.D. in English literature” (25). The thing that stood out to me the most was the fact that you could even die from eating meat that comes from unhealthy animal. What frightened me the most was seeing what happened to Kevin – his death. Many people in the world eat meat – such as hamburgers- for lunch and dinner every day, yet I have never heard of someone dying from food poisoning.

In the short story “A&P” by John Updike, check out boy Sammy stands up for the “mistreatment” of girls dressed in bikinis who came into the grocery store that he worked at. While practically drooling at the girls as they walked through the aisles, his mind had essentially put them on a silver platter. When his boss told the girls to not come back without some proper clothes on, Sammy quits his job saying to his manager, “You didn’t have to embarrass them.” Sammy’s abrupt decision to quit showed how much he was caught up with the girls, of whom he didn’t even know. After handing back his apron, he ran outside expecting to see the girls waiting for him in order to thank him for standing up for them. Obviously when he got outside, they were long gone.

Sammy’s life is coming to a crossroad, little does he know, on the day that three half naked young girls walk in the grocery store. Sammy judges the customers, as well as his boss, and due to this his life would never be the same. The point of view in A&P is incredibly important because everything that happens in the story is told by Sammy the narrator. We get to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly about everyone, from Sammy’s perspective.
Baker was upset at the change in Attired’s physical appearance. Attired was immediately told by Baker to remove the tattoo or she would be terminated. Attired failed to remove the tattoo, she worked at Biddy’s for the rest of the week and was given a termination notice. Baker said her customers would be “appalled and disgusted” and this would lead to a decline in profits. Baker was unable to provide any proof that Attired’s tattoo actually caused the restaurant to lose money.
