Outline I. Introduction Is attending a prestigious college always worth the best education or will going to a local college be just as good? In Bill Complin’s essay “Lost in the life of the Mind”, he explains how students can attend a well named college but won’t necessarily have the education needed for future employment. I believe we should have schools that teach us the importance of a future job, however I don’t feel that one college should teach different then another. I feel that we should all be graded the same way and taught the same. II. Statement background (personal views) A. I believe that a student should be graded fairly B. A student shouldn’t have to have so much pressure grades but to understand the concept of their future employment. C. A report showed that in the 21rs century U.S. Workforce, “basic knowledge and applied skills are perceived to be critical for new entrants’ success” (Bill Coplin, pg. 444) III. Proposition A. In the years I have been attending a college, I have noticed that more and more teachers are not doing tests, and if they are, it’s more open book. Why is this? B. I feel that a teacher believes the student will retain more of the info and be able to take what they learned with them to the workforce. C. “I was plenty angry at a system that treated all students as if they were in college to learn for the sake of learning when in fact the vast majority wanted college to prepare them for a successful career.” (Bill Coplin, 444) D.
