Joshua Zilberman Professor Scott Johnson HUS 1001 27 January 2013 A future career as a paramedic What specific career am I looking for within the Human Services field? I've always wanted to be one of those "people who ride around in the ambulances" since I was a child, so I decided to pursue a career as a paramedic. I am currently trying to get my emergency medical technician certificate from Edison State, after which I will start my very first job in the medical workforce. This, of course, always looked like a noble and respectable occupation to me. My mother has also been taken from my house to the hospital via ambulance on a few occasions, making me respect the men and women even more for doing their jobs as quickly as possible. What pushed me towards this career as well was the fact that Edison State, an actual college I happened to live by, offered such courses at a relatively cheap price; this was a life saver considering that my family did not have the money to push me through an expensive university for four years, and I certainly did not want to end up with so much debt that I would drown in it. Starting from small beginnings, I intend to complete my emergency medical technician certificate course this Fall, then, over the next few years, work as a certified EMT and take part time courses to get my paramedic certificate course over with. After that, the third step will be to obtain an associate in science degree in emergency medical services technology. When I am done tackling those hurdles, I want to get my BAS in public saftey administration in order to simply continue educating myself so that I can be promoted to higher positions and to have job security.
