English 101 3 September 2012 A Frightening, Saddening, and Inspiring Experience My most memorable childhood experience is when my cousin, KC, had a horrible car accident when he was sixteen. He is an amazing older cousin and friend as well. I had, more than once, gone to him for advice before anyone else. He is smart, fun, outgoing, and kind. He and I were very close from a young age. His wreck was frightening, saddening, as well as an inspiring experience for me. When my family received the phone call telling us KC had been in an accident and being airlifted to Huntsville Hospital, it was the most frightening thing I had ever endured. We arrived at the hospital and everything seemed so bright. I barely knew what I was doing because I was so upset. I walked into his room and when I looked at him I couldn’t believe he had survived this. He flew out the window of the car and slid across the road. As a result he had gravel embedded in his face and most of his skin was gone. There were monitors hooked to him everywhere, and they were making loud noises and beeping incessantly. I had never been more afraid for someone in my life. After we knew he would make it through his injuries, we started asking what the long-term effects would be. What the doctor told us was incredibly saddening. He ended up being paralyzed on the left side of his body, and would have to have multiple surgeries. His paralysis meant an end to his outstanding football career, which was extremely important to him. I knew we would never again be able to goof off and play the way we could before his accident. Later, we found out the man driving the other car in the accident had died. All of this made everyone very sad. In the end his story became very inspiring to a lot of people, including myself.
