Ceirra Zeigler Mrs. Vukas Honors English March 5, 2013 Brave New World In Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, the world is based on the motto “Community, Identity, and Stability” every aspect of society follows this phrase. Everyone belongs to everyone else. These three words: “Community, Identity, Stability”, hang in a sign over the central London Hatchery and Conditioning Center, which creates and conditions new human life. The people live in one community, follow their pre-destined identity and lead stable lives as a result. The entire society in Brave New World is based on the idea of community. No one is ever alone, solitude and loneliness are unheard of. Everyone belongs to everyone. There are constantly community gatherings, such as Orgy-porgy. Depending on what caste one is part of: Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, or Epsilon, the individual different events. Stability is the most mentioned motto throughout the novel. Stability is the ultimate goal of society because only through stability can happiness be maintained and all unpleasant feelings and emotions be eradicated. The desire for stability requires the production of large numbers of genetically identical “individuals,” because, people who are exactly the same are less likely to come into conflict. Stability means minimizing conflict, risk, and change. Brave New World also states that it creates stability by, deep thought, new ideas, and strong passions. In Brave New World, the take magnesium slats to preserve their youth and stay young and beautiful forever. Also, they use malthusian drill, as a contraceptive of birth control. Without ideas or passions, mankind loses the possibility of the more significant fulfillments provided by the pursuit of truth in art and science, or the pursuit of love and understanding with another
