All humanistic studies are conducted unscientifically. This is a strength of this is that they are less artificial in the way they conduct their studies, this in turn makes the tests more ecologically valid. However a weakness of this is that they have no objective results and they are unable to control variables. This makes causality harder to establish and means psychologists are unable to predict what is going to happen. The humanistic approach represents the ‘healthy half of psychology’ and suggests that we are all with good intentions.
Murdock believed that the nuclear family was a universal institution that was vital to the well being of all societies and stated that the family's primary purpose is for sexual, reproductive, economic, and educational. Many people say murdocks analyse suffers from a failure to consider how other instructions can or could take over the functions of the family for example welfare state providing shelter. Parsons said even though the family had lost some functions it retained two basic and irreducible functions, they were primary socialization and stabilisation of adult personalities, parsons argues that society cannot exist without shared values norms and roles which are passed on from generation to generation and claims family's are needed for this purpose. The functionalists view of the family has been heavily criticised for being outdated and for presenting an overly optimistic view of the family. Many people criticise functionalists because they ignore the fact that not all families are perfect, another weakness of functionalists is that not all families can carry out all four of the functions for example gay families can't carry out the reproductive function.
The Marxist view on the family is that the functions are performed for the benefit of these capitalists. Firstly, Functionalists such as Murdock see that the nuclear family (one containing a male, a female and one or more children) is universal because of it 'sheer practicality' in performing four vital functions, although he does accept that other institutions such as religion, law and education could perform these. Item A identifies two of these functions. The first being that ''it provides for the stable satisfaction of the sex drive''. This means that in having the same sexual partner, it prevents the social disruption that would be caused if there was no stability and people could just go out and have sex with numerous different partners without consequences.
A communitarian view on society states that each individual is responsible for his status inside a given community; that such a community is equally responsible for the status of its individuals. It states that any law or practice should be based on a purely democratic and not a simple majoritarian perspective. Polities should be determined to foster participation and deliberation, not to dictate policies but rather mandate a collective perspective. Indeed all this must be done, and more, in an effort to regulate a healthy society in which all individuals are equal in the community and that contribute equally back to the community. However, how can a society be democratic without being majoritarian?
(Okoro) For Madu, destiny is the philosophy and belief of the traditional stage that every life is unique in a significant way and is subject to a series of unforeseen hazards and unexpected rewards, which are all made from the chi. (Okoro) According to the Igbo culture, no two people have the same chi. Each individual is inimitable and irreplaceable. Chi is regarded as the Igbo principal of individualism. Achebe speaks of chi often in Things Fall Apart and makes it clear that all clan members of the Umuofia tribe believed in chi in some way.
Socialism postulates that, given all humans are part of a society, then all humans have certain responsibilities to the group in which they find themselves a part. This assumes that all forms of society and civilization are different collective arrangements where groups of people are obliged to share available resources to increase the likelihood of their survival. In the extreme form of both systems, a huge amount of power inevitably ends up concentrated in the hands of a very small number of people. Under socialism, that power is given to leaders with the
Amongst family, community, religion, academia, business, media, and government are all equal but, when one gains predominance tyranny always emerges. Family ensures responsible citizens, preserve society, and balance desires of individual liberty. Therefore, preventing the centralization of power by keeping responsibility and decision-making close to the people in the community. Religion serves as a venue for citizens and their duties to and reliance on God. Along with academia advances culture through knowledge, helps to prevent sociology economic inequalities as it breaks through boundaries of human ignorance and fear.
A child’s approach to managing your work priorities and professional development smells of success. Primarily managing your work priorities and professional development builds trust among the people. It has been said that the one thing in society which could survive a nuclear attack is managing your work priorities and professional development. This is incorrect, actually cockroaches are the only thing which can survive a nuclear attack. Economic Factors Economics has been defined as 'I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine.'
Conserving Natural Happiness In Paul Bloom's essay titled, "Natural Happiness", Bloom believes that, "We thrive in the presence of nature and suffer in its absence" and that "Real natural habitats provide significant sources of pleasure for modern humans" which should make the preservation of the natural world important to us (679). According to Bloom, nature's positive impacts should be enough reason for conservation and that technology shouldn't outweigh natures existence. I believe that nature is important to our happiness, but unfortunately we take it for granted and progressively live our lives engaged in technology pushing us to forget the powerful healings of "natural happiness". Paul Bloom's purpose for writing his essay is to argue that the pleasure nature provides to humans is a significant reason for its preservation. His argument is apparent in the first paragraph when he says, "Few people need convincing that the destruction of rain forests, mass extinction of species, and the melting of ice sheets in Greenland would all be very bad things" (677).
Platos Ideal Society essay In the Republic Plato talks about what he believes would be the ideal society, in other words what he thinks would be the perfect society which would bring peace to the whole world. He explains that in his ideal society people will all live a harmonious life and not have to fear violence or material possessions. It is important to realize that people have been trying to create the perfect society for years and all have failed trying to. I do not believe that it is possible to have this ideal society that Plato envisioned. I feel that no matter what happens there will be violence and their will be betrayers.
