9/11 Report Stephanie Parris Everest University July 18, 2012 On September 11th, 2001 the United States was shaken to the core. Two terrorist hijacked planes crashed into the World Trade Center killing and injuring thousands of people. Another plane was hijacked and hit the Pentagon. Since then, the 9/11 Commission has issued report on the events, the short comings of security, and future recommendations to prevent such acts from reoccurring. Islamic terrorism had continued to grow, and Islamic terrorists had provided warning to the US that they would be attacking great numbers of people within the US. Some reports suggest that the actual whistle blowers publicly report on the 9/11 report. This is an issue that should be addressed on all levels. It is important to at least acknowledge and investigate suspected reports of terrorism. In the post 9/11 world, it is more important than ever. Terrorism has taken forms like never before. They recommend attacking terrorist organizations by strengthening international commitments, seeking out the terrorist sanctuaries, and confronting problems such as in Saudi Arabia over oil. One of the bigger challenges would be to prevent the growth of Islamic terrorism. The Commission suggests that the US become an example of moral leadership to the world. They suggest communication and the defense of American ideals throughout the Islamic population. The Commission suggests a maximum effort to countering the accumulation of weapons of mass destruction. The last major recommendation would require much effort in part of the United States. To protect and prepare for terrorist attacks is probably the most important recommendation for most Americans. The Commission recommends that terrorist travel be targeted. This is an important factor that could have helped in the prevention of 9/11. They also suggest that problems be addressed in screening people when they enter and exit the United States. Stricter guidelines for issuing driver’s licenses and birth certificates should be set forth. Set better guidelines for communication from agencies such as the FAA to the air controllers.
