Social isolation, poor housing, unemployment and poverty are all linked to mental ill health. So stigma and discrimination can trap people in a cycle of illness. The situation is exacerbated by the media. Media reports often link mental illness with violence, or portray people with mental health problems as dangerous, criminal, evil, or very disabled and unable to live normal, fulfilled lives. 2.2 How mental illness can have an impact on the individual: Psychologically: - person may become paranoid and therefore exclude him or her self -person may become paranoid and therefore hurt others who she/he fears will try to hurt him/her -person may become isolated and therefore out of touch with other people and reality in general -person may feel unloved even if it is not true -person may feel like he/she is a threat to society and therefore attempt suicide emotionally: -person may feel isolated, unloved, paranoid, panicked and non-human (read Francis Kafka's The Metamorphosis)

People with depression may take antidepressants, which are psychiatric medication to alleviate symptoms. The victims of discriminatory abuse could get less favourable treatment than other people because they are different. Indicators that discriminatory abuse is taking place could be that the person withdraws themselves from society because they feel are being discriminated against, or the victim could become stressed due to getting less favourable treatment which could then lead to health issues such as lack of sleep or ulcers. Domestic Abuse This is when there is a pattern of abusive and controlling behaviour within a relationship through which the abuser seeks power over their victim, which also tends to get worse over time. The abuser is not always a partner; it could be an ex-partner or even family members, although it is only considered domestic abuse if the victim is over 16 years of age. The main indicators of domestic abuse could be that the victim has unexplained injuries that could have been done by the abuser.
As with soma, prescription drugs (where prescribed or otherwise) provide a quick fix for physical or mental problems and/or a way to get high. 3. The person that is distressed can be irritable, pessimistic, overly sensitive which will negatively affect communication. It makes people become isolative which will then lead to lack of communication. Anxiety often coexists with depression. A person who suffers from anxiety may avoid expressing him/herself due to the fear of making mistakes or being judged.
Addiction has severe negative consequences affecting the addict’s mental and physical well being. Addiction also has numerous allegations for the health of the public, because of substance abuse, addiction is now a major donor to many serious diseases and it can also result in violent behaviors. This article supports my stand point that addiction is a mental illness rather than a bad behavior and creates a solid argument on how addiction takes over the addict’s brain and is the main source of inappropriate behaviors.
