Susan Marandi In the Bible, temptation is a test designed to give an individual the opportunity to do evil and sin against God. The reason for temptation is to complicate things for an individual about what good and evil really are when it comes to temptation. Is temptation a negative or positive thing for a human being? The seven deadly sins can be a negative thing for a human being, but it can also be a positive thing for a individual. Envy and Greed are one of the seven deadly sins, and in my opinion these two sins can be a good or bad thing depending on advertisements, electronic media, written media and art work. Envy, is known for being one of the seven deadly sins, is a sin that infects the world in several shapes and forms. Envy is defined as painful or resentful awareness of another’s advantages. Envy can be found almost anywhere you look, and that in itself is a sad fact. Envy is present in the world in a variety of expressions, such as someone wanting what someone else has because it is better than what they have or don’t have. Envy in written media can be good and bad thing for an individual. Debra says “being jealous of other writers is what gave a best-selling author her start”. Debra never resented MacMillan; she just wanted the same thing she had: I want a literary and cinematic dynasty! She said if she wanted what MacMillan had, she had to do what she did and that was to write. She stated “Envy, then, need not to be the dark side of admiration; it can be the catalyst for healthy competition. Envy adds to the luster of those you envy, it doesn’t catch up to them. You can join them, not beat them”. She’s saying it is okay for me to have what a person has, but don’t do it the immoral way. She wanted what MacMillan had and she was competitive about it, but wasn’t envy. Debra thinks that envy is not a sin and she says that a person can use envy in a
