What specific strategies would you recommend, and how would you promote them at Premier? I think that the primary issue with work/life balance at Premier Publishing is the ability to have a more flexible work schedule and to work from home. Every former Cybooks employee that we have heard from has had the same concern. This gives them a negative image of Premier because they think that the company does not trust its employees. Premier needs to realize that by moving into the technology segment, they are acquiring a new breed of employees, how crave the ability to have creative freedom, which means that they need to be able to work at the times that are most suitable for them.
In the case study involving the purchasing and operation issues of Dryden Inks, the purchasing agent, Jane Waterman worked an excessive amount of overtime during her time at the company. Dryden Inks started as a family business and grew along with their competition, which had become much stronger and then developed a pressure regarding their prices. Jane noticed that older methods were being used that didn’t match the demands of their products and most of the company’s orders were on a “rush basis”. She wanted to contribute to the company in a way that would make their day-to-day operations become more productive and efficient. Certain problems in this case are having an outdated and no comprehensive inventory that causes their control system to reflect improper supply amounts.
Introduction: In order to have high productivity and best results in work environment, it is essential for organizations to have successful motivational practices. Motivational programs can increase productivity and job performance in workplace. Motivating employees to do their best and use all their abilities and skills, is a complex challenge for any organization. Recently companies use different types of motivational programs to keep their employees motivated and maintain their job satisfactions, but all the motivational practices cannot have positive impact on the success of the business and even worse some types of motivational schemes can reduce productivity. One of the main concerns in any motivational program is ethical issues.
There are a lot of factors that can influence an employee’s motivation which make it such a crucial part of successful management. Describe the factors that may affect motivation levels in the workplace Motivation levels can be affected by many factors within the workplace. The most basic of these factors are the pay, job security, environment and fringe benefits such as medical cover and life insurance. Most of the above are seen as the normal of a job (pay and job security) or extras (medical cover and life insurance). It is important thou that an employee has enough money to able to live as they will soon lose focus of their companies aim and become more content with finding another job or asking for pay rises.
There are many different contributors to motivation within people that I never realized just how many theories there are. Goal-setting theory is the one that I am most familiar with and the one that I have the most questions about. When I think of setting a goal for myself at work I am thinking of a dollar amount that I am setting out to sell, or a certain number of products I want to sell per hour. The book says that goals are also seen as deadlines for tasks and I do not necessarily see that. Goals are not just the “primary drivers of the intensity and persistence of effort.” I see my goals as what I need to do, but not exactly how hard or long I need to work.
Considering Obligations Abstract The objective of this paper is to define, describe and identify the meaning and the role that obligation plays within society today. Obligation can be conflicting in personal, professional, and employment situations. This paper provides an in-depth view of the role obligation plays in the workplace and personal life. Discuss how moral obligations can cause conflict with self, friends, family and employers. Considering Obligations Obligation is defined a course of action imposed by society, law, or conscience by which one is bound or restricted (Dictionary, 2007).
Looking at motivation as a theoretical framework to promote a positive workforce can assist businesses in meeting the challenges faced today. The purpose of this paper is to analyze various need theories of motivation and how they affect organizational behavioral. This will include Maslow’s Need Hierarchy Theory of Motivation, McClelland’s Need Theory, and Herzberg's two-factor theory. Motivation can be defined as the “psychological processes that arouse and direct goal-directed behavior” (Organizational Dynamics and Human Behavior, CMU pg. 112).
RIT1 Behavioral Influences: The Expectancy Theory of Motivation Expectancy Theory of Motivation Behavioral Influences The Expectancy Theory of Motivation (Porter & Lawler, 1968; Vroom, 1964) is a model of behavioral choice or cognitive process for explaining an individual’s decision-making process. It focuses on how decisions are made to achieve the desired result rather than providing specific suggestions on what motivates individuals. The expectancy theory has some useful implications for motivating employees. It identifies several important things to motivate employees by influencing the person’s effort-to-performance expectancy, performance-to-reward expectancy, and reward value or personal goals valence. The expectancy theory has three key components: expectancy or effort, instrumentality or performance, and valence or reward.
Motivation in the Workplace In the workplace, there are many factors that affect people’s job satisfaction, performance and overall happiness in their working environment. Employers are constantly trying to hire motivated, hard working employees, however after being in a job for a considerable amount of time, how do you keep workers motivated? Motivation is a key aspect that relates and affects many, if not all aspects, in the workplace. There are various types of motivation that stem from different places and are created through varied tactics. Having employees positively motivated is a key aspect that managers strive to achieve.
Motivational Theories and Factors Terry E. Michel PSY 302 Professor Cain May 1, 2011 Motivational Theories and Factors Motivation is a central topic of Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Effective motivation is one of the most important ingredients for moving organizations forward in the modern world. In its technical meaning, motivation is an energizing force that stimulates arousal, direction, and persistence of behavior (DuBrin, 2004). In this paper I will attempt to compare and contrast three motivational theories including the relationship of stress and conflict in relation to individual motivations. I will also discuss effective techniques used in stressful situations at work both present and future.
