“MEAN WORLD SYNDROME” Did you know that by the age of 18 the average person sees 200,000 acts of violence? There is no way to escape violence, it is everywhere from movies to television and video games. There are many people that believe children seeing and hearing all these violent acts can make them violent people. George Gerbner beliefs were quite the opposite; he believed that seeing and hearing all these violent acts made us afraid of the world. He coined this “The Mean World Syndrome”.
Why is the age of people having sex getting lower and lower? Children are exposed at young ages to pornographic images and adult situations. Cable television and movies are showing things on a regular basis that twenty years ago were not shown and were considered pornographic. Many parents are allowing the television to raise their children and this is where the children receive their information on sex. The problem is children don't realize the ramifications or dangers of early sexual involvement.
Maybe adult pornography sites don’t apply to every single kid, but how about the violent, gory, and explicit video games that elementary school children play? The media has a huge control on what is being watched on television. When it comes to Jackass the movie people love watching films that shows people hurting themselves and doing stupid stunts. People believe that watching others get hurt is more entertaining than watching intellectual shows because it puts many of them to sleep. Throughout the film there were many interviews from different people on describing what stupidity means to them. Not many of them really understand what it means.
If exposed to violent TV for an extended amount of time, it may be able to desensitize anyone, especially if they come from an already broken home or bad neighborhood. To say that because of this desensitizing, everybody is to be more violent would not be accurate. Many who have broken the law or committed crimes against man don’t even have access to TV. People in bad neighborhoods or broken homes or schools are more prone to violence because of what they see around them,
Many daytime talk shows are all about making money and to gain high ratings. Therefore, many people need to stop watching these unhealthy talk shows. Imber-Black explains that children have become so much effected by hearing their parents' secrets for the first time. Also, these kids have to face shame among other kids in the classroom. Many kids become depress and they can feel belittle When growing up as a child my parents never let me see or hear them argued.

Most of the studies, though, suffer from the third-factor effect - yes, student who watch a lot of TV tend to be more aggressive, but could a third factor explain both behaviors? Student with lower IQ scores also tend to watch more TV and be more violent, as do person from poorer families. The correlations between heavy TV watching and other behaviors could be merely effects from common cause. By making these foods their market is getting smaller because it is destroying the consumers, literally. Nowadays, someone has some sort of illness like cardiovascular disease or diabetes.
