Unit 142 4.3- Evaluate own practice in promoting a balanced approach to risk management It is important to balanced approache to risk management As practitioner working with children I have a duty of care toward the children and must make sure that they are safe.we plan the play environment and activity which is safe for the child, but there is also a balance between the risk a child can take. Children should be allowed to take risk with adult support but not too much intervention. If they are not allowed to take risk they will not be able to develop the skills required to deal with risks and make judgement about their own strengths and skills .this would affect their development , self esteem and confidence.Through taking risks, children…show more content…
This works well but different situations happen daily. I am now going to put in place a review session and the end of each day so we can review how the day went within risk management, and see how well things work and what we could change. E.g. in the past our front door is a bit temperamental so we have now had to change the procedure so now the back entrance can also be used. The gate is locked at all times and a key is hung up if it needs to be opened (e.g. in case of a fire). This needs to be reviewed again as when it was practiced we realised there is only one key and that key could get lost. Another sinerio was when I first came to the nursey I got out the bouncey castle in the garden the children were in and out of it and I realised that the entrance to the bouncey castle was a little unsafe as there was only a thin netted door in and out onto the concrete floor so if a child was too fall backwards or forward through the netted door there would be nothing protecting them from hitting the floor. So I metioned to a member of staff about putting some mats at the entrance and they thought this would be a great idea. Everytime we use the bouncy castle now we get the mats out for
