Learning and Memory Donna Gray Psych/550 August 7, 2011 Dr. Donna Gardner Abstract This paper will focus on the description of learning, the distinction between learning and performance, and comparing the contrast of the conceptual approach to the study of learning. Individual learn and store information differently. This paper will begin by illustrating how individuals can adapt to new and old learning skills, and to process needed and unneeded information. Individuals chose to forget what he refuses to remembering but not remembering does not eliminate the remembrance. Memories remained in his or her subconscious, and some words or an occurrence amplify that memory. Learning allows one to mature and understand life, although learning is a result of instinctual, and life’s experiences. Memory Lane Donna was in a sentimental disposition and believed that she needed to trace an old boyfriend from 30 years past. She proceeded with her investigation and located her old friends’ parents whose phone number had remained the same after these years. She finally located this old acquaintance. Eventually, they begin a cherished phone connection, attempting to evoke the memories of yesterdays. Donna found this captivating, and agreed to allow this old acquaintance to visit her. He arrived very apprehensive, and hesitant of what to expect. His memories consisted of adolescences’ romance when they were both 17. Each had matured to the age of 50, and Donna had triumphed through life’s journeys as a skeptical individual. Donna chose to suppress her past: According to Terry, (2009): “When people encounter a cue to an unwanted memory, repression keeps the unwanted associate from being retrieved” (p. 5). Donnas’ acquaintance arrived at the prearranged time carrying the chapters of their romantic relationship from the past. Donna
