Gatorade Health Risk Gatorade was introduced in the early 1960s the drinks purpose is to replace electrolytes lost through exercise. However Gatorade is said to have health risks, like high blood pressure. Gatorade has more sodium then soda and sodium can lead to high blood pressure. Even though high blood pressure is not common in people under 30 years of age it could still affect young and older athletes. Also Gatorade can causes weight gain for those who drink Gatorade on a regular basis without doing at least hour of vigorous sport activity can gain weight from the drink.
While this may be true, it is crucial to acknowledge that one of the reasons behind the high rates of drug abuse is the ease of availability (Simon 2005). In fact, many people get addicted to prescription drugs thanks to their availability. The writer also argues that the prohibition in the use of these drugs is wrong since the drugs are immensely useful. Falling under the category of nootropics (a Greek word that means “act upon the mind”) smart drugs are said to improve memory consolidation, learning as well as memory retrieval devoid of other effects on central nervous system, not to mention the low toxicity even when high doses are taken. While these effects are evidently desirable, it is crucial that the writer examines the flip side of the so-called smart drugs.
Their solution is wrong, as laws will still be broken and people 20 years, 364 days and younger will continue to consume alcohol. The answer to the problem of underage drinking is not to add more restrictions. Rather, it is simple: get rid of the "underage" part. A study printed in the Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education has found that the lower drinking age has not really posed a problem for underage drinkers (96). This study also found that only 1.5% of their sample (6 students) agreed that the availability of alcohol was presenting a problem for them and their drinking habits (College Health Survey 96).
Jonathon Nangle Professor Pekarthy Intro to Sociology April 15, 2010 Alcoholism in America’s Colleges Alcohol is a drug that is used frequently for recreational purposes across the United States of America. Alcohol use is so common and so natural to Americans that it is not seen as harmful and we are often unaware of its long term effects and addictive qualities. Since people in the United States do not usually think about the harmful effects of alcohol, more than six percent of Americans will eventually develop a disease called Alcohol Dependency Syndrome, also known as Alcoholism (Kimmel). Alcoholism is a very serious disease that frequently begins affecting young adults while they are in college; and when people begin developing this
Those kinds of ideas can lead them to serious consequences. Those consequences can include: getting caught, losing tuition, and getting kicked out of college. Getting caught may not be an issue, if they are in high school, but in college it can be an issue. Explaining themselves to the professor and classmates can be quite embarrassing. Their classmates may not find it okay for them to get good grades while they do nothing, while the classmates study hard and long to get the grades that they do.
The drugs are relatively cheap and easy to get, usually from friends, student dealers or by faking ADHD symptoms to get a prescription, but there are also some serious side effects such as depression, mood swings, insomnia, heart rate and blood pressure irregularities. But taking study drugs is not only dangerous, but also illegal and off course morally wrong.
Another issue with the lack of tests and being able to procure these drugs so easily is the large and overwhelming issue of misuse. Some kids and young adults mainly in the late years of high school and early years of college can fake ADD, ADHD, and Bipolar disorder to obtain the prescription drugs and use them for other reasons such as selling them, or taking for other reasons than prescribed. Students tend to be on tight budgets especially in college, and can take advantage of the lack of tests and being able to obtain it so easily by taking the medications prescribed and selling them to classmates and others for a good amount of money. Some students also use the pills to get stuff done, and be able to pull “All Nighters” to finish assignments. These medications are in high demand for the desirable effects they have on the body, like helping you to sleep
Principally, single sex schools are beneficial for the students that attend them because they create a better learning environment. At a certain point in time the opposite sex becomes a distraction to the natural learning environment and disrupts the flow of a class as well as life in school. Rosalind Rosenberg, a Stanford graduate with a BA and PHD had documented that male traditions, which had initially isolated women in many colleges and universities, began to fade and the modem sexual revolution struck American campuses. The efforts of the university administrators to impose a system of separate sexual spheres on student social life were largely futile. The youth of the teens and twenties rejected the rigid constraints of Victorian society and the young women cut their hair, threw away their corsets, shortened their skirts, danced all night, and even Eliza Mosher could not do much about it (Rosenberg).
Though this may not be directly connected to middle school students it will still have an impact to them in life. Homework also creates stress. Stress from working too long, stress from anxiously hoping to get a good grade. WORD COUNT: 294 TOTAL: 294 It is estimated that 75% of student visits to the doctor are partly stress related. Thus pupils are not going to do as well as they could as a result of the sickness from the stress of their
Academic Integrity in the Internet Age Being a successful academic student takes constant effort and perseverance. Students display a lack of academic integrity by cheating; and cheating comes in many forms. In present day, the internet has spiraled into a necessity for the younger generation; it is involved at school, home, work, and many other aspects of a person’s daily life. There are many consequences involved in academic dishonesty and students should practice strategies to avoid these consequences. Defining Academic Dishonesty Plagiarism is considered cheating in regards to academic dishonesty.
