Drinking alcohol is trended to a younger age. 18 years is not old enough to drink alcohol. Scientific experiments show that alcohol can make people exhilarated. Many college students drink alcohol younger than 21 years old. Some people have debated the legal drink age should change to younger than 18 years old. Binge drinking is proof that we need to keep 21 the age required to buy alcohol. Younger people drinking alcohol can hurt the brain; research shows that the brain is not fully grown when people are younger than 21 years old. If younger people excessively drink alcohol, it will result in higher traffic fatalities and cause irreparable damage. In the United States, it is legal to have a driver’s license at 16 years old, younger people at this age like to try new things, because of this curiosity they are more eager to drink. This is even more dangerous. After the law setting the drinking age at 21 years old, there was a 13 percent drop in traffic fatalities involving drivers aged between 18 to 20 years. Making the alcohol law reduced traffic fatalities and saved lives. The United States and most countries around the world allow 18 year olds to join the army and vote. If the law lowered the drinking age to 18 years old it would increase the crime rate. (“Wright”) A minor drinking alcohol earlier than 21 years old would hurt their brain, influences their judgment, and younger people lose control after drinking alcohol. They do not have control of their actions and will commit a crime. 18 years old is the legal age to get married and watch R movies. Generally a person should be treated as an adult at 18 years, but there are countless deviations from this benchmark in the United States and other countries around the world.
