Eugene Ofori-Addo PHILO 101; 12:30 My Self as an Empiricist Philosophy turns out to be a rather broad concept that can spark out the different life thoughts each individual holds. As already defined, philosophy is the love of wisdom. This love of wisdom is what divides us humans into several different categories when it comes to what we think about life as a whole. Taking my personal life experiences and up bringing into prospective, I realize I fall under the concept of Empiricism, a sole root of Epistemology. As the typical African saying says, “Life with less or no knowledge is life with no or less senses”, is what mostly describe my empiricist life. In my view, there is no way one can be born with knowledge unless one of the five human senses introduces you to knowledge. Today, I would be breaking down the part of Epistemology known as empiricism with which I belong to. What is Empiricism? One may ask? Well empiricism is defined as the philosophical concept that experience, which is based on observation and experimentation, is the source of knowledge. According to my views, I fall in this field because the only information that I gather in my daily life with my senses is what I base my decisions on. The five senses an individual has, which is the eye, ear, skin, nose and tongue is what gives us knowledge about something. My beliefs are that, when I was born, my mind was just like a blank disc with no information on it, but with gradual growth and socialization through the senses, I developed a concept of who I am which in other words can be noted as gaining the knowledge of who I am. This is how I break down these five senses of the human that makes me an empiricist. First of all, the eye is one main part that introduces my sense of knowledge. Seeing what I see even with no knowledge about what it really is helps make me create a guess on what it might be.
