Where I come from people who are in poverty are on welfare and they seem to work the system just so they do not have to work, but now after watching the video it has definitely opened up my eyes to what is really going on. Most people can’t help their situation especially where I am from because there are not many jobs available. Now I do understand that they have the choice to finish school or maybe no depending on their family situation. But if they are not able at the time they should at least go get their GED. Sometimes even having that may not get you a good enough job to provide for your family.
The family in turn will rely on the educated child to grow up and have a good job, so that when they have their own children they are able to pay taxes towards their children’s education and so on. Unfortunately in poverty or poor areas it can be difficult for society to change the cycle. This can delay or even prevent improvement. For example, if parents aren’t working and therefore not paying their taxes, this could lead to crime which could mean that the local government cannot maintain high educational standards. Teenagers leaving school cannot find good jobs and can result in them turning to vandalism; drugs and many may not find or even look for a job.
Children are hindered by these kinds of schools, teachers and peers lay a big role in the children’s lives. Some teachers are there for the income it will bring into their house hold and not the well-being of the child and students are pressued by their peers into thinking that education is lame and for losers. In most cases this is what children of low income go through but not all. Many may not realize that the surroundings of children may sometimes affect their future. Being raised in a low income area surrounded by people living the same lifestyle as you as if struggling is the norm of society.
Making sure they do their homework before sleeping or playing with friends and making them get up on time to go to school. After I came to the U.S, the strange environment brings more difficulties of study and daily life to me. Chinese high schools need to do much better job for teaching students how to be mature and to take responsibility for themselves, so students will be able to manage their own lives when they grow up. Parents in China prepare daily life and study problems very well for their children during the high school. They manage all of the life tasks and even help their children apply to colleges, but then, when their children go to other countries to attend colleges; those children like me are unable to handle those necessary tasks by ourselves.
I finally realize what I want to get my degree in, which is my associate’s degree in early childhood education. The reason I decided to school so I could be a good role model for my children, be able to give them what they need in life, show them college is the next step after high school, and to better my education. Being a good role model for my children means a lot to me. Having a father that was a alcoholic and who never graduated high school was never a role model in my eyes. On the other hand I looked up to my mom.
but otherwise I can not see the clever thing of being a young mother, I think that when a person would be parents he/she should be mature and ready to take responsibility for another human being, he/she would first have to have a job or education. So they later on not get into financial problems and after let her child be given up for adoption, like we have read much about in the class, That because of they don't have a education or job they lose their child.I think it's best when you are over 22 before I think it is too early when you're a teenager, he/she is too young to take a so big decision to decide whether she should be a mother or
They tend to drop out of school at around age 15 in order to help raise younger siblings, and sometimes their own child. They have no encouragement in the home to continue their education and are forced to work in poor paying jobs or as migrant workers. Those that get the opportunity to get their GED and continue to get a college education tend to be insecure and shy because their language skills are not at the same level as that were fortunate to receive a continuously good education. Most, not all, tend to get depressed, stressed, and overwhelmed, and some tend to once again dropout because they have no support. Those that get lucky and have a support group tent to make it to the end in order to receive their diploma or certificate and attain a better paying job.
This is why I’m trying to find ways to help other before they dropout. Family need to do more with their children, like ask question talk with the teachers find things that would allow them to be a part of their life. The program needs to be one that would help a child before he or she start falling behind, we need to make a change today for the children of tomorrow. The state need to stop cutting back on after school programs that offer help with reading and writing they also need to set-up a program that offer free classes for parent’s so that they are able to help their children at home with homework . Also this system should have program which older children can help the younger children with their reading and writing, math etc.
Being the first person in my family to get a college degree makes me feel so good. Setting example for children and letting them see that mommy can do it is priceless. The things that we do in life as far as school wise are thing we can take us to the next level is just a lot of us lose hope we are not sure where to go. I though getting a high school diploma was fine for me. I felt school was not for me because I have dyslexic and, I feel people just don’t want to help me.
Most don’t understand what their parents work for. Or why their parents even go to work. “For what?” Is it because the parents like to work? Do parents work to stay away from home? Are the parents explaining to the child why they have to work, and will the children picture what the parents try to show them?
