14th Birthday It was a bright sunny day in September. The sky was blue, the air was crisp and the sun was shining gloriously. It was a long awaited day; it was my 14th Birthday. It was a very special day I had a first-hand experience of how a party is prepared, connected with most of my family, and received many gifts. When I woke up everyone was happily telling me happy birthday and giving me a strong tight hug. I had the best breakfast I have not had in months, my mom cooked me my favorite meal. I had waken up at 7 a.m. that day by the time I looked at the clock again it was about 1:30 p.m. The day was going rapidly as If someone was purposely fast-forwarding the clock. My dad had left to the store earlier this morning to buy meat and other things for my party. My dad started making “carnitas” when he got home. Carnitas is a traditional Mexican dinner, its pork cooked in lard for about 3 hours. While my dad was cooking the carnitas, my mom was setting everything up for my party, and my sister had gone to pick up my cake. My dad finished making the meal at about 5 pm. People started arriving to my house; all my uncles and aunts were walking into the house with a gift for me. All of them were telling me happy birthday, giving me a hug, and handing me over the gift. I wanted to desperately look into the gift bags but my mom told me, “do not look into the gift bags and put them on the table.” I could not look into the gift bags until almost the party was over. Suddenly the most unexpected people walked into my house. My grandma and grandpa had come from Mexico to stay over in my house for a few weeks. That was one of my biggest gifts; my grandparents coming over from Mexico to tell me happy birthday. I was surprised because all the other times when my grandparents had come from Mexico my mom tells me that they are coming. I guess it was just a
