The Benefits of Exercise Tia N. Harrid General Psychology 1001 June 7, 2011 Ms. A. Washington The Benefits of Exercise A subject I'm well too familiar with, health and wellness. Exercise contributes a great deal to the health and wellness industry. I will explore the wonderful benefits of exercise and share with you why it is so important to exercise. The basic definition of exercise is the training of the body to improve its health, the body's function, and enhance its fitness. "Physical activity is an inclusive term that refers to any expenditure of energy brought about by bodily movement via the skeletal muscles; as such, it includes the complete spectrum of activity from very low resting levels to maximize exertion"(Britannica online). Physical fitness can be divided up into two categories. One is motor-performance physical fitness and the other is health-related physical fitness. Physical characteristics that constitute health-related physical fitness include strength and endurance of skeletal muscles, joint flexibility, body composition, and cardio respiratory endurance. Some of the benefits of exercise are less risk dying from heart disease. Regular exercise May help in the treatment or prevention of other chronic diseases. One of those diseases includes Type 2 diabetes. Diet and exercise help control Type 2 diabetes. More studies are establishing benefits of exercise can also help lower your risk of colon cancer. Childhood obesity due to the advancements in technology have prevented and deterred kids from regular exercise and has developed more and more children into obesity. Regular exercise can decrease the harmful effects of high blood pressure. Osteoporosis and some cancers also benefit from regular exercise. Exercising on a daily basis will increase muscular strength and decrease body fat. There are so many
