Nature Vs Nurture Essay The debate between nature versus nurture has been argued for centuries. Some scientists think that people behave as they do according to genetic tendency or even animal instincts. This is the nature theory of human behavior. The Nature Theory believes that traits such as intelligence, personality, aggression, and sexual orientation are encoded in DNA, much like eye and hair color. While other scientists believe that, people think and behave in certain ways because they are taught to do so. This is the nurture theory of human behavior. The Nurture Theory believes that our behavioral aspects originate only from the environmental factors of our upbringing. I think nurture plays a larger role than nature. In the case of Oxana, dogs raised her. Her parents were unfit to take care of her, so she turned to the dogs for care. She lived with them and picked up many dog like traits. She growled, barked, walked on all fours, and crouched like a wild dog, sniffed at her food before she ate it, and found to have acquired extremely acute senses of hearing, smell, and sight. She only knew how to say "yes" and "no" when she was rescued. She literally became like a dog. She was taught like that from her dogs. If nature played a role in this then she would not have taken on those qualities of the dogs. She has said she is happiest when among the dogs because she was raised like one. In the case of Genie, she had problems learning how to speak like a normal girl her age. Genie spent nearly all of her first thirteen years of her life locked inside a bedroom strapped to a potty chair. She was victim of one of the most severe cases of social isolation in American history. Genie was discovered by the Los Angeles authorities and taken away from her neglectful family. Due to her isolation, Genie did not have a normal learning capacity. She never had anyone
