Nature vs. nurture. There has been many controversies whether which of these theories is correct according as to how we behave. But what is nature and nurture? Nature is the theory that we are who we are because we were born that way and nurture says that we learn to behave a certain way based on our surroundings. Although this theory hasn’t been proven to be true, I believe nurture affects our behavior more than nature. John Locke’s theory of tabula rasa supports the idea of nurture. Basically what John Locke says is that we are all born with blank slate and our experiences fill up these slates. This means that we will become most likely like the people who raised us; sharing some of their values, likes and dislikes, etc. An example of this is a girl by the name of Oxana. This girl was a normal human girl but the thing was that she behaved a lot like a dog. Her behavior was due to being around the dog for a large amount of time. She took on the dog as her role model, since her parents were hardly around, the dog turn into the form of a role model. According to nature, Oxana would have remained with all her human behaviors which she did not. I believe how we are influenced and the experiences that we are exposed to, will have a greater impact on who we will be and how we will behave. Who our parents are do have something to do with this but only if it is our actual parents that raised
