I. DESCRIPTION The Filipino Work Values Scale (FWVS), Student Edition, is an instrument designed to determine a student’s work values. The scale consists of 80 items and takes approximately 15-20 minutes to accomplish. Differences between the Employee Student Editions are only in the General and Specific Direction for accomplishing the Scale. The Student Edition was adapted from the Employee Edition of the FWVS. The directions in the Employee Edition calls for the respondent to assess his/her work values with which he/she makes decisions at work. The Student Edition, on the other hand, requires the respondent to consider his/her values that are most likely to influent his/her choice of job, job assignments, work organization to join, place of work, etc. II. SUBSCALES / DIMENSIONS A. Environmental. This is associated with work which is carried out under pleasant physical conditions – not too hot nor too cold, noisy, dirty, crowded, and not far from where one lives. B. Familial. This is related to the family – family cohesion, family unity, emotional closeness and security in the family, firm loyalty to the family ties in activities, family-oriented achievement motivation, and respect for parents. C. Intellectual-Achievement Oriented. This is associated with work which (1) provides opportunity for independent thinking and for learning how and why things work, and (2) gives one a feeling of accomplishment in doing a job well. D. Interpersonal. This is related to persons – “amor propio,” “hiya,” “utang na loob,” use of intermediaries or go between, the value of loyalty, hospitality, “pakikisama,” emotional closeness, and respect for authority. E. Managerial. This is related to work which involves the coordination of human and material resources in order to accomplish the objectives of a work organization. F. Material. Associated
