Types of bullying An explanation of the different types of bullying and their potential effects on child and young people. Sexual bullying can consist of repeated, harmful and humiliating actions that target a person sexually. Examples include sexual name-calling, crude comments, vulgar gestures, uninvited touching, sexual propositioning and pornographic materials. For instance, a bully might make a crude comment about a girl’s appearance, attractiveness, sexual development or sexual activity. In extreme cases, sexual bullying opens the door to sexual assault. Sexting also can lead to sexual bullying. For instance, a girl may send a photo of herself to a boyfriend. When they break up, he shares that photo with the entire school. As a…show more content…
It’s also becoming more widespread because bullies can harass their victims with much less risk of being caught. Cyber bullies often say things that they do not have the courage to say face-to-face because technology makes them feel anonymous and detached from the situation. As a result, online bullying is often mean and cruel. To the victims of cyber bullying, it feels invasive and never ending. Bullies can get to them anytime and anywhere, often in the safety of their own home. Social exclusion in the school environment is increasingly being recognised as a form of relational aggression or bullying, in which a child is exposed to harm through the manipulation of their social relationships and status. Social exclusion can take many forms, with children reporting a range of experiences from being deliberately excluded from a peer group to having rumours spread about them, being called names and being purposefully embarrassed. The potential effects on children and young person that are bullied could be: * Poor academic achievement. * Children/young people scared of walking to and from school. * Attempt suicide. * Truanting from school (to escape
